So true. They have to feel your frustration. I hope everything has a nice result. Cheer's mate.

Absolutely not. Anyone knows that acting like a tool won't get you very far. Be friendly and firm. Being rude doesn't make them empathetic, it makes them say "Let me get this D-Bag off the line and not do anything for him."

I was concerned about third part disk but apple geniues told me nobody would touch it

Hi, as mine is 12 inch it require quite some work to removed the harddisk.

Another thing is I was thinking of making a exact copy, instead of encouraging me doing what should be done. the guy at apple bar said 'since it is third party, we are not going to touch it. on top of we are really good on handling computers' at the time it made a lot sense -- they for sure more experienced than me and I never failed a disk or lost any part of my laptop.

(of course that is not the case after I google 'lost harddrive apple".:(

what bothers me now is what could I do to enlarge the chance of getting my hard disk back? anybody had similar experience have any advice? any phone number of the repair center?

Hi everybody, OP here. I have managed to achieve resolution to the problem with Apple. By escalating the issue up the customer support chain, Apple has agreed to fix the stripped screws and will provide me a reasonable store credit for the trouble I've gone through.

I'm still disappointed in Apple's repair center for losing my drive. As for their customer support, however, I suppose Danny was a bad apple spoiling the whole bunch.

Next time I send in a machine for repair, I'll likely save a PDF of the system profiler readout, and I might just swap back in the original HD to make sure that I don't risk theft of my data.

Thanks for all your comments, and may you never have to go through this kind of melee, yourself.

best,

Jacob

Happy to see you reached a satisfactory resolution. My experience with Apple is that speaking with lower-levels generally sucks, but there are some great people at the top who are willing to bend over backwards to help.

contact infor of the right person(s) at apple? Jacob

Hi, I would really appreciate the contact of 'the right person' of apple. As my case is still new, I feel if they do something, I may still get my data back.
