Lost my iPhone 6 in the river over the weekend. I need a phone for work so I went to Apple store to get a replacement. Since I was in an AT&T contract, a new 6+ will cost $849. That's a lot to spend knowing a new phone is releasing in a month.

Any good options for buying a phone now and upgrading after the S release? Trying to minimize the expense as much as possible but I need a phone ASAP.

You say you 'NEED' a phone, which is understandable but does it have to be a smartphone? Surely you can get a cheap and cheerful 'dispoable' phone to last a month or even a bottom end budget smartphone? Perhaps even a friend or somebody local has a cheap 4/4S for sale?

If you're planning to get the 6S then there is no point at all in wasting money on a 6 now. Besides, if you get a bad phone now you'll appreciate a new one next month when the time comes.

Buy a cheap iPhone 5, 5c or 4s from swappa to get you through. You'll spend a couple hundred but can resell to recoup some of that cost. If you don't want to buy used then the Moto G is a cheap but capable handset to get through a couple of months. I used one last year before the iPhone 6 came out and it wasn't too bad.

I just bought an used iPhone 4 for $48 on Amazon! Im using the 4 until the new one comes out.

Hit up friends & family. SureLy someone has an old smartphone laying around you could borrow for a month. Keep it out of the river though.

just go to best buy and get some prepaid $10 phone in a blister pack and be done with it for a month

get yourself a Nokia 5165 with a custom cover and play unlimited snake for 5 days non stop. the battery will probably last a month too.

My sister just lost her iPhone. Against my advice, she went with the NEXT plan and got an iPhone 6 (she had the 5s). I tried to tell her to just wait a few weeks. Or at least try to get a discounted price on the iPhone 6. The closer September draws near the better chance that current models will drop in price.

So, I guess you have to ask yourself if you'd be willing to wait a few weeks. But, if you just have to have one right now, check out the NEXT plan. But, like my sister, you may have buyer's remorse next month.

OR, as many have suggested here, just buy a cheap phone to "tide you over" for the next month or so.

In the end, you have to make the choice that is best for you, as you are paying for it, not us.
