If you're reading this and don't have Find My iPhone enabled - do it right now! It's an amazing service and I know from experience. My girlfriend went on a hike one day and dropped her phone. Luckily I had set up Find My iPhone for her because she would never do it and I know how careless she is. We we're able to follow the GPS right to the signal and find it buried under leaves in the middle of the woods. Incredible!
