I purchased a few albums and seasons of greys anatomy for my macbook and when it was replaced some of the purchased files were lost on the way over. Is there a way to get them back?

Call Apple. They have the ability to reissue purchases if they can verify them through your Apple ID -- although they exercise it rarely. It would help if this was an Applecare covered sudden and catastrophic failure and the repair was done by an Apple authorized centre.

Otherwise, did you ever wonder why iTMS says "You should back up your purchases" every time you buy something?

You can politely ask Apple if you can re-download your purchased content using this form. Apple's Term of Service claim you may only download music and videos once, but on rare occasions they have allowed customers to download them for a second time free of charge.

Reminder: You should always have a backup.
