Lost my startup chime after the update yesterday. This happened once before a while back but I forgot how I fixed the issue. The sound isn’t on mute and I double checked all my sound settings.

If I remembered correctly I did a specific pram reset but can’t remember if that was what got it to chime on startup again.

Any trick to getttig it chiming again?

Thanks

I thought they stopped using the chime a couple of OS's ago. What OS are you running?

I’m up to date, I think the 2016 MBPs and later lost the startup chime but the earlier machines still chime. Mine did up until yesterday. Restarted the computer after updating and hasn’t chimed since. Not sure if new iMacs still chime.

My Mac mini startup chime stopped a couple of years ago. A normal NVRAM or PRAM reset (Option, Command, P, and R keys pressed during startup) restored the start chime.

Have yet to perform a pram reset but I know you’re suppose to let go after the second chime. But I can’t hear the chime so I’m not sure when I should let go?

Are you connected to any speakers? If so, unplug them, hit the volume + key a few times on your MacBook, then plug speakers back in and restart.

You have separate volume controls for external speakers vs. integrated speaker - if you mute the integrated one, it also mutes the chime. If you have speakers connected all the time, then you'll never change the integrated speaker volume - it'll remain muted.

lol this actually worked. Unplugged my Klipsch computer speakers, and tapped the volume and it was down. Turned it up, rebooted the computer and chime came in loud and clear.

No need for a pram reset, thanks !
