iPhone 15 Pro Lost the urge to upgrade regularly

I used to upgrade my iPhone every 2 years. I even paid a fortune to buy out my monthly contract a year early to get the X on release. I currently have the 15 Pro. Last year I decided to spend the money on a camera instead of the 17 Pro, fully expecting to go for the 18 Pro this year, but I'm not feeling the urge.

The only reason, currently, is that I find I need to top up my charge at least twice during the day despite starting every day with a full battery (battery health is apparently at 80%). Also my case is falling apart. I'm aware neither are reasons to spend £1,200.

Can anyone convince me it's worthwhile? I like making use of the latest tech and will likely be a moderately heavy user of Siri AI, but my current phone feels in no way slow. Now that I'm carrying a Fuji around a lot of the time, camera upgrades aren't enough of a reason.

Or should I just get the battery (and case) replaced and wait another year? Is anyone else slowing their rate of purchase?
 
I upgraded every year until last year. Decided to build a new PC with a 5090 before the RAM shortage happened. Undecided about upgrading this year as the price increases are ridiculous and there’s only little upgrades.

Duo looks decent, but I will wait for the improved second or third gen, which most likely will be cheaper.
 
I'm upgrading from the same phone as you primarily because I think prices will go up a lot next year due to the RAM crisis. The camera upgrades seem nice, but the other reason is also battery. I have so little time and no backup phone so it's not a good reason on its own, but I really can't be without a phone while it's being worked on.

There is always the option of upgrading to the previous years Pro at the point a new Pro comes out. There are other ways to avoid silly costs.

Never lost the urge. Just only randomly every 2-5+ years do I have the money to get a new phone on installments. With three other people on my plan, it isn't just MY phone I'd be upgrading.

We don't sell our phones and we have a grandfathered carrier plan. So, I do not pursue promos.

I could afford the 18 Pro Max now and am eligible next week to upgrade. It doesn’t seem worth it specs wise over the 16 Pro Max though, and the additional £100 makes me ask what the point is?

I guess the real question for me is how expensive would next year's model be given the RAM crisis? Next year I'd probably want the anniversary model but it's likely to be even more eye-watering than the Duo price.

I don't think there'd be a really worthwhile upgrade until the 20th anniversary tech is mature, and hopefully RAM prices in 2029/2030 are less insane. So a decent bump with the 18 Pro until then seems the least worst option.

I think i’ll keep my 16 Pro Max another year at least, the longest I’ve kept an iPhone to date. It doesn’t seem to be lacking compared to the 18 Pro Max, so it’s a bit of a crossroads for me. I’m not liking the curved glass rumours of the twentieth anniversary iPhone as that sounds like a nightmare in principle for those of us that need cases on our phones with almost daily drops.
 
Same ! I'm rocking the 15 Pro still, I had the battery replaced recently and put the beta on - with the 27 beta it was smoother and faster than the 17 Pros in store with iOS 26. Goes to show just how bad it was, feeling no need to update especially since the main camera hasn't gotten bigger since the 14 Pro
 
If I upgrade it will be in December when I go up to see my mother north of Austin, Texas and go down to the hill country Galleria mall, and go into the Apple Store and do my trade in and get one, but right now, I don't feel the need because the only thing that has changed for me regarding photography is the main primary camera with its variable aperture Which is Not a big deal. I don't see we're variable aperture is gonna make that much difference on a smartphone. That Is a very useful feature on a DSLR lens. None of the other cameras have been changed or upgraded. Still the same. Unless they aren't mentioned only sheep on apple's website. But most likely, they are exactly the same as the 17 Pro Max ( ultra wide and telephoto). Probably prefer to wait for the Samsung galaxy S27 ultra after the turn of the year in the spring. That is really the only reason I get new phones, for the camera and nothing else really. I just enjoy taking photos and video with upgraded gear.

If I was on a 16 I'd be doing exactly the same as you. I kept my 11 for four years! I've just been upgrading where possible given the absurd tech inflation we're in the middle of. The PC I built a couple of months ago has gone up nearly £500. These are crazy times.

With any new technology, I always feel the excitement to get the latest. But in fact there is hardly any difference between two successive models. In some cases, there is no need to upgrade even for 2 to 3 years easily.
 
You don't need to upgrade constantly. I would have been using my 14 pro for 4 years this Dec.
They are so expensive so unless the cost is immaterial to you. It is worth doing a quick cost / benefit analysis when you have the urge. Which it looks like you have done.
I would just replace the battery if you are happy with the phone. That's what I will probably do as mine is at 78%. My storage is starting to bother me as well but not enough to upgrade currently.
Cases are cheap.
