Because that commercial makes ANY sense.
"God is playing chess with people... and statues of deities of COMPLETELY unrelated religions... on a really big board. It makes sense. Yeah." [Insert "Everything In It's Right Place" by Radiohead here, which I think is ironic and wildly humorous.]
Seriously, while i will be pissed by ANY religious overtones (or, satan forbid, characters) I at least hope they won't try to tie the God of Abraham to the gods of the Ancient Egyptians. That would be an exercise in stupidity and futility.
Never thought of that, good point! I too would be very pissed off. Also, I have a feeling based on the complexity of the show, and the scientific values it takes on, a majority of the viewers are "non-believers". So you and I wouldn't be the only ones hating that.
(I realize I made a gross generalization of 'believers', but so what).
I believe that Lost is a very intellectual type show. On the surface, its a drama/thriller/suspense show. But just below the surface, it really is one of the most philosophical, the deepest and most convoluted show in the history of television.
And we all that theists like thier stuff simple and straightforward:
"3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness." [Genesis, 1:3-4]
So, no, I do not disagree with your generalization. I in fact staunchly support that theory. But, I digress.
To conclude, I believe that the series finale of Lost will be leaving many people screaming at their televisions, but will more importantly be leaving us with some smoking guns and question marks. I will miss it, but I still cannot wait to see it.
