For those of us who use the escape key thousands of times a day, losing the physical button with its tactile feedback and actual motion is crippling. Imagine if apple replaced just the enter key on your keyboard with a Touch Bar. You’d hate it, just as we hate the loss of the actual Esc key.

Surely this is not difficult to understand.

Someone already answered this for me but I appreciate your unnecessary condescending reply. I don't hit the escape key thousands of times a day and was just curious as to why this was a big deal.

There are a lot of differing types of Mac users and sometimes some of us don't understand why others don't see it or we don't understand why some users want something in particular really badly or don't want something in particular.

Add a physical Escape key and I'd be happier. . Can't touch type on keyboards that have keys which are purely touch.

For the missing ESCape key, can you just remap the tilde key?

Rumors are the new 16" MBP will add back an ESCape key (implying it will keep the Touchbar otherwise).

Erm, no, that's not a solution, it's moving the issue to another key. The tilde key is another key I and many others use multiple times a day.

That screams Unix.

You don't want to type out the whole path?

I have a 2016 non TB MBP. Is the Touchbar really as bad as people say? The new Macbook Air is now standard with the touchbar and the people of MR didn't like that at all. What's with the hate?

It's not justified. The people who hate it either don't own it, or don't have any apps that use it and are looking for an excuse to cry.

The Touch Bar is fantastic and is a huge time saver in apps that make use of it. It's a blessing in Xcode when all the awkward simulator keyboard shortcuts are now shown as buttons, or when you're on the internet filling out forms and can tap a button to fill in the most common types of form questions. It's also nice in art apps that make use of it because things like sliders and pickers often move to the bar so that your hands don't have to leave the keyboards to make adjustments.

Anything Apple does, people will unjustifiably cry about. As for those whining about the physical escape key, I'm sorry it's a non issue. Your finger goes to the exact same place and I manage to hit escape perfectly fine, as do my coworkers, so I call BS on people who claim you can't.

And yes I sound irritable because I'm sick of the whining.

If the Touch Bar is so great, why hasn't Apple released it for the iMac, Mac Pro and Mac Mini?

I use a mechanical keyboard. The feel, sound and feedback are unparalleled. Apple should really make their own. And make it an option on the laptops.

But that’s not possible! I was told that anyone who hates the touchbar has never owned one. It’s a fact, or something.

Yeah, there are some touch bar loyalists here that hate it when others dump on the touch bar. I don't understand it, and I never will. Those who hate the touch bar don't hate people who love the touch bar, they just hate the touch bar.

Because nobody would want Touch ID data sent over Bluetooth, obviously! They’d have to build the sensor into the desktop itself.
Right (at least in part)... which goes to my point that the Touchbar is run by the T1/2 chip in the MBP, and they can't really move that to an external keyboard, so an external-keyboard Touchbar would require an expensive, complicated, battery-draining new design to externalize...

Maybe the over-heated rhetoric is what sends these discussions into the slums?
