I have a CD MBP, and I hear a fan noise on the left side, but not the right. i used smbcontrol and hardware test to make sure both my fans are in good working order. i believe the ati X1600 sits on the left side. it doesn't have a fan too, correct? if not, then why is my left fan louder? smbcontrol tells me both fans are spinning at 1000 rpm (normal idle speed), but the left side produces an audible fan noise, while the right side is quiet. any ideas? much appreciated

I have a VERY similar problem. My hardware is almost the same. One generation later, though with C2Duo.

I get a "crackling sound" from approximately where my left fan outlet is at.
The strange thing is that this is only while the machine is cold. That is, after been in sleep mode or have been turned off. Then it disappears in about 20 seconds or so, and remains quiet...

Any ideas??
