How do you know what is true for others or if someone is bragging by having a signature line? I don't understand what your issue is exactly. Isn't it a bit presumptuous on your part?

Probably. Ok, so I was called an apple snob by someone JUST because I mentioned how much faster Apple vs Android was in their tablets. I am by NO means an apple snob. Didn't feel it was relevant earlier. I would own an Asus if it was decent enough quality. But it wasn't, so here I am too.

I didn't know I was bragging by putting all my Apple products on my signature line. I
did that when I saw it on others signature. I like to see what other Apple products members
own. I'm definitely not bragging. This is a Apple site after all.

To some listing ones hardware IS bragging, to other maybe not so. I never read it anyway so it is a non-issue for me.

OP: Not so sure about this. I'm betting more folks are upgrading because they like the latest and fastest, not because of a desire for status. Same reason some folks upgrade to a beta of OSx and ios. Apple products are so commonplace now that there isn’t really any 'status' tied to them. As for using a product to feel 'accepted'... I think the general addiction to electonics is simply that they offer simple, easy gratification for the mind; and they really do increase productivity. I don't see anyone waving their ipad around as a ticket to join a club or clique.

You are right. Apple is becoming more commonplace. I guess being called an apple snob and again, finding it difficult to wade through the bologna to get to what I needed to find (which I ultimately had to start a new thread on) just sloshed my spaghetti and put me in a foul mood.

I joined this forum for a couple of very specific tech discussion topics and to have only one response to my legitimate question it's very very frustrating and disheartening. To try to have to sift through what is for me (hey, what's this, my opinion?!?!) a lot of junk to try to find the topics that interest me so I can get the brass tacks I'm searching for, it's very frustrating. yeah, you're right, I did enjoy getting my iPad and my needless purchases. And if people want to spend their lives standing in line for days on end just to sign the paper for their next phone, let them. It's not effecting me. But when I'm trying to find legitimate discussion on certain things, it's frustrating.

I have to say that I never saw your original thread asking for help. I think that is more an issue of sheer volume of posts on this forum, than with anyone's perception of the Apple brand being a status symbol. Posts get quickly buried, so often times I think it helps to add a follow-up question or two as a means of promoting your thread. I don't think people here willfully ignore trying to help, there are just so many topics and if you *really* want to rant, perhaps the folks who start thread after thread about something that is already being discussed in half a dozen existing threads are more fair game 🙂

I wish Microsoft had the same quality of products (phone, watch and tablet) that apple has, but they don't so here I am.
I'm still a gaming pc build my own type of guy and don't have a need for a pure laptop.

I love the surface design, especially USB and SD card slot. It's the internals and peer-to-peer connectivity/MS Windows that kills a great design.

What’s wrong with the internals? Probably the majority of components are in common with the MacBook Pro as they share one of the same manufacturers. I have not used one peer to peer, so have absolutely no idea on that. Windows 10 Pro seems actually and surprisingly pretty decent though.

It’s a different approach, but they seem well built with attention put into the design.

I am not absolutely not trying to start a Surface Pro vs iPad Pro debate, merely making mention that they do have a quality product or two, the miserable phones aside 🙂

Between folks arguing over 8% screen size increases, who is going to purchase what product that they don't need just for consumption, the upgrade every year even though you don't need to (when the products themselves are inherently designed to last upwards of 5 years), to the brag lines (what apple products a person has)on peoples profiles. It's just really sad that society has gotten to this point where a person has to be in possession of the newest stuff to feel acceptable.

Do you ever buy anything that's not a necesseity? If you have a car that costs more than a grand, has leather seats, has any type of extras. What about a house with more than the amount of bedrooms of people in the house? Most people buy things that are not necessities.

As for the so called brag lines. Who are you to say what's someone's intentions are. This is an Apple forum. If this was a non apple forum and people listed all of their Apple products in a sig line than maybe that could be considered bragging. Here it has context and can help with discussions. I did it because I saw so many others doing it and thought it would be fun. I like seeing what other people have here. Now maybe if people listed all their Prada purses in an Apple Forum sig that may be considered bragging.

I appreciate that that is why you have your sig line. But on the flip side of that, why not just leave it off and add it as discussion in an appropriate post, like if someone is having trouble trying to figure out RAM issues with their iMac you can reply with 'having owned etc...'

I'm in a VW TDI forum, and without your "stuff" listed - they will just respond, "list your stuff and then we can answer".

People tend to post very generic questions, without taking the time to list their model in question. That makes it VERY difficult to answer questions correctly. Or, I don't want to hear from an iPad Air2 owner when i'm asking about my iPad Air1.

For the record, I only upgrade my families items when the time comes it must be done to keep it at the experience level we need. My kids have newer phones than me - 1 paid cash for it herself, and 1 is getting a new 6s from her Dad. I'm rocking my 6 hopefully for another year. Oh and it is only my 2nd iPhone, i came from a 4. Same for the iPad, i had the original and bought the Air. Time to upgrade this go around!

It certainly is affecting you. When you condescendingly refer to the situation as "standing in line for days on end just to sign the paper for their next phone", there is no question that the situation is affecting you.

Do you genuinely believe that that is what those people in line are doing? Is that your sincere interpretation of the situation when you see that queue? That these people are queuing up to sign paper? The words "anticipation", "suspense", "excitement", "fun", "experience", "pleasure" or "enjoyment" don't cross your mind when you see that queue?

To be clear, I've never queued to buy something new so my response does not come from a feeling of being personally attacked. My response is entirely rational and comes from a belief that self-awareness, reflection, empathy and human experience is required on your part, particularly when you say

I really like Apple products. Don't get me wrong. I'll even admit that when I got my first iPad and iPhone that I felt a little tinge of "oh yeah". But that's where it stopped for me. There are specific reasons I like the apple and quality of product is one of the main reasons. The ONLY reason I even pay attention to what's coming out next is to find out if the iPhone is going to step up the water proofing as well as if/when the iPad is going to go waterproof. When/if that ever happens, I will be getting my last "non necessity" i product. Only when I absolutely HAVE TO upgrade will I be upgrading.

Just received a bottle of Ardbeg Dark Cove as a gift. Not nearly as expensive as that JW Blue, but I am looking forward to a grilling and enjoying some tonight 🙂

I don’t think you’re too different. Almost all things in life are not about needing but about wanting. Good food? You don’t need it, you want it. Plain rice would be enough to survive. A comfy bed? A car? Both are things you don’t need but which you want.

One could argue that you’re on quite a big horse.

Op complaining about how Apple users on an Apple forum like their Apple products. Now I've seen everything.

You have a very negative view of very trivial stuff. Would you go to a forum dedicated to any other topic and criticize the people there for liking the thing the site is dedicated to? Remote control airplanes. I've seen forums where people like to keep upgrading the parts to them and crazily enough, list in their signature what models they have. As if they like them or something and want to share with the rest of the group what they have.

If people have the money to upgrade and want to, why shouldn't They? Are they doing it because they are total sheep and feel the need to please Steve jobs' ghost or do they just genuinely want the new product for the features it offers because they feel it provides value to them? I won't deny there are fanboys or a small number of people that think it's some tool to look cool (hey that rhymed!) but for the most part, all you see on here are people excited for their products because they genuinely like them and you're twisting that to be something completely different.

It seems like you're on the outside as someone who just doesn't care about upgrading very often and just for whatever reason, criticizing people who do because you don't understand it or maybe you're following the Apple hate bandwagon without thinking about it and your brain is telling you to call whoever likes Apple products more than you "sheep" just because.
