Beautiful pictures. I am so tempted to upgrade to the 4s from the 4 but don't want to lose my upgrade eligibility for the iPhone 5/6 or whatever Apple decides to call it. Decisions...decisions

Actually, I've had mixed results so far on the 4S. I've made some fantastic pictures, but the flash is problematical. Sometimes it works perfectly, but sometimes the resulting picture seems washed out (as though there is condensation on the lens even though there isn't). Also, in the stock Camera app, it seems to be the case that once one switches orientation to landscape that it doesn't return to portrait without restarting the app. Also, with the flash I am getting a lot of zombie-like white-eye (I would have thought Apple would have a filter to eliminate this that way that many cameras eliminate red-eye).

Must not be any real photographers in the house. iPhone best camera they ever had? wahahahaha ummm ya

Ummm, I'm absolutely a photographer. Been working in the industry for about 5 years now, and an enthusiast for many years before that.

Of course the iPhone 4S is not the best camera out there, but it is the best cell phone camera on the market hands-down. It takes great pictures and when I don't I don't have my Canon 5D Mark II with me, the iPhone works pretty darn great.

There's an old saying that been around for awhile, and I'm sure you may even be familiar with: the best camera is the one you have on you at the moment you need to capture a shot...

It's also the case that sometimes 'good enough' is all you need. There are plenty of occasions where even a top-end DSLR just doesn't end up being much better.

Recently we put our house up for sale, first I took a bunch of photos (with my iPhone, my own sony 'bridge' camera, and a borrowed nikon d90 dslr). Then the estate agent sent out a professional photographer to do the photos. His turned out much better (mostly because of the lens - I had the kit lens, and a fisheye, nothing in between :().

But for the main photo, the big one of the front of the house on the front page of the brochure? They picked my iPhone shot. The weather was better that day, HDR made it look really good, and it ended up better than the pro's shot. And that was with a 4, not a 4s!

You know what would really kick ass? A big DSLR with a dock connector instead of a screen at the back. Plug your phone in, use iOS apps with a big high res sensor and a bunch of high-end lenses. When somebody makes that, I'm buying it!

Aside from my D300S, YES!

Better than my 2 year old Sony and Canon Point N Shoot cameras.

And yes the best part is the old but true cliche' "The best camera is the one you have in your hands"

Question:

My 4S is taking great pics when I don't zoom in at all. But as soon as i zoom in a little bit they get really grainy. Anyone else experiencing this and have any way to fix it???

Thanks

It's a digital zoom, it's having to make up the extra information to fill image size. you're better off just zooming in post with image editor.

Yeah, the 4S is a pretty capable little guy. Obviously not as good as a DSLR or mirrorless interchangeable camera, but it's as good as the average P&S. (High end P&S cameras are still much better as well). I left my camera in the car today to see if the 4S could be a passable camera in a pinch. It wasn't too bad.

Wow, nice images! those are great. fantastic color. Did you use a camera app or the standard camera?

by far one of the best cameras I've used (i haven't used a DSLR). very clear shots. the iPhone 4 was great and this is miles ahead. it even looks like they have worked out that green blob thing from the florescent lightning from the iPhone 4's camera.

the best camera phone on the market is the nokia n8

I have to agree. I just recently started to enjoy the camera on this thing. I also shoot nikons. They aren't just some thing you carry around like a range finder which I prefer but the iPhone is now what is always with me since I use my iPhone for most things. It's great to take shots with on the go with pretty good quality. I never used the zoom on this though lol.

Interesting idea...

It's awesome for a phone camera-- could use some work in low-light settings, although that's a difficult feat for even the best DSLR cameras.

It's a decent camera but not good by any means. My Samsung point and shoot does a better job. Not to mention it would never replace my Canon 450D DSLR.

Wrong.

That would be the Nokia N8.

But I'm no photographer.

Anybody looking to enhance their pictures should take a look at the olloclip. Im not one for plugging products, but this thing is awesome! ive taken some great shots with it. By far the best 3rd party lens system available for the iphone 4/4s

Yeah, I keep saying about the olloclip. I love playing around with the extra lenses, especially the macro :)

On the best camera question again: I've changed my mind. It's the iPhone, not the nokia n8 or a dslr. They might be technically better, but there are no apps. You can do more with a few cheap apps than with a pile of expensive glass.
