If 5C is affordable, it would very well replace the iPod Touch.

Why would anybody buy an iPod Touch when, for the same price you can buy an iPhone 5C?

It won't be the same price as an ipod touch, plus take into account that the iphone would require an expensive data plan as well.

There is no way Apple does this. Their stock already lost a ton of value this year (been up the last few day though) and if this happens, it will tank.

Ya, right !! Oh goodness, here we see this again, and again, and again.

I'm surprised how much some actually care about the low end iPhone rumors. I guess we don't have much to rumor about, but it just isn't that exciting to me.

Agreed. We all know that the phone will run the same OS yet cost less.

Rumors these days are splitting hairs. We'll have to wait until Google Glass opens up the next generation of gadgets, and there's no guarantee that will happen.

Interesting thoughts everyone, thank you for your time.

Agreed. Tech hasn't had any quantum leaps in recent years apart from Google Glass which didn't make waves as much I thought it should have.

Anyway, I for one am quite interested in the iPhone 5C. I just refuse to pay £600+ for a phone these days. When my iPhone 4 broke, thanks in large part to alcohol and an over-eagerness to get a snapshot of my mates resulting in a less-than-romantic introduction between my phone and the tarmac, I just got myself a £20 phone and an iPod touch. It's good enough, for now.

Apple will replace the lower 4 and 4S with the new 5C to consolidate their screen sizes and lightening ports, then possibly keep the 5 at a mid price point and have the 5S as the new flagship. Or they might drop the 5 altogether. Rumours are rumours. I reckon next year they'll drop the numbering though, just like they have with the iPads, but that's for another thread.

Alex

How about this: 5C is the ONLY phone released this year. 5S comes out next year. I think this is possible. There haven't been many worthwhile rumors supporting the 5S.

The tech world would have a riot. And APPL stock would most definitely plummet if this happened.

Honestly, they're spending all this time making a low-cost 5C, they need to make a phone with a bigger screen...

I think with iOS 7 and plastic they're trying to go back to their roots with the first iPhone.

The first iPhone was metal. Just sayin'

...and plastic. :/

But you couldn't tell cause it was shiny, high grade plastic. I think the iPhone 5C is made out of that biodegradable stuff. It's softer.

They will still keep the iPod touch, while the market share for the touch and other iPods will continue to go down there are still people who don't really want to pay for a smartphone plan. The main cost of smartphones is the service not the upfront cost.

Apple is taking a 9% charge on every cheap iPhone sold, cannabalizing sales of the mainstream iPhones.

So, what's the profit margin of the cheaper phones?

I was just thinking about that today or maybe it'll just be the iPhone 5c and the iPhone 5s and when the iPhone 6 comes out they will continue to sell both of these options

It won't happen, the iPhone 5 is now outdated, and consumers (and networks) will not tolerate that. A lot of European networks are launching LTE networks from September and if there isn't a compatible iPhone people will be considering Android LTE phones.

The iPhone 5 does not support the frequencies most networks will be operating LTE on (800 MHz and 2600 MHz). They would lose so much market it would be difficult to recover.

That's where the 5s comes in.

But what's to stop people from buying the 4S, it has better build quality.

And how can they call it a 5C if it doesn't have the exact same specs, it's not a 5.

Most people buying an iPhone will not care that the 4S has better build quality than the 5. They see that it's a new iPhone and will just buy it.

explain "higher end" please - troll

You don't think Apple could make a high end iPhone? I don't know, something. Better build quality, battery life and more advanced materials. A fingerprint reader is a start...

Please read up on the high end iPhone 5S. Its already been rumored about better cpu, better camera, fingerprint sensor, dual flash, longer lasting battery, for goodness sakes. That's a higher ended iphone over the current iPhone 5 OP. Next one in 2014 will be the iphone 6. Please stop with the high ended question. Its already in the works. Its the iphone 5S.

Well that's what I'd expect. And I can ask whatever questions I want, thank you very much.

Good day sir!
