Yes, yes, i know, another hard drive thread! But i've searched them and i can't seem to find out what the low end 21."5 imac hard drive manufacturer is. All i can find is about the 1TB hard drives but in the base model imac it is 500gb. Does anyone know

I want to know if it is noisy also because i'm gonna buy it but i don't want it too be too noisy!

p.s. this is my first thread so sorry if i am unclear or i confuse you :)

    Mine was a Western Digital

Don't know the exact model but I checked mine yesterday: it's a Western Digital.

Really? And it's the 500gb one? Do you find it to be noisy?? :)

Most likely either going to be Hitachi, Western Digital or Seagate. They aren't going to change manufacturers just for the sake of a different capacity.

EDIT: Oh, and don't worry about the noise.. As you searched already, I haven't heard any complaints about the 500GB, only the 1TB, even the 2TB is OK.

My 21.5 3.2 Ghz 1 TB has below internal HDD specs:

    WDC WD1001FALS-40Y6A0:
    Capacity: 1 TB (1,000,204,886,016 bytes)
    Model: WDC WD1001FALS-40Y6A0
    Revision: 05.01D06

Perhaps my new mid-2010 iMac 21.5" is lucky or perhaps I'm deaf? Or, perhaps I'm used of the extremely loud HDD in our Win 7 HP Laptop (our other computer)? Not too sure.

I find the noise level of our iMac's internal HDD acceptable. It isn't silent. But it isn't whining or doing clicking sounds either....

Well, i'm coming from my HP Compaq laptop and it is extremely noisy so as long as it is less noisy than my laptop i'll be okay. No whines or clicks? That's always good to hear. Glad your enjoying your iMac and thank's for your answer! :)

Thanks for answering! Good, it seams to me that there are no issues at all with the 500gb hard drives in imacs. i was just worried about it because in other threads they say they hear clicking and its really loud with the 1tb hdd.

    Nope it's so quiet

Whisper quiet. I am very sensitive to noise and I haven't heard much of anything. :)

I just came across this thread and no, you're not deaf and it's certainly no low-end drive. This is the single quietest hard drive that I have ever had the privilege of owning. And it's FAST, too! ;-)

I have the "low-end" 27" 2010 iMac with the Core i3. I had a the highest-end 27" Quad-Core i7, also 2010 model with the very same drive, which means it's hit and miss as to what drive you'll get.

You can end up with a noisy Seagate (as I had before these last two iMacs) in a $2,000 system, or get a premium WD Caviar Black drive in the entry-level 21.5" model. ;-)

    Enjoy!
