Yeah, it could be normal. If you don't have anything running at all that would be a strange sight.

Out of all my usage, I check everyday, I usually only have 1 or 2 of those messages. The easiest way is to just double click home button, hold down the icons and close all the unused programs. It will save on memory and battery life.
