$60 for the Apple Pencil is excellent. Definitely get one if you have a compatible iPad, it’s extremely beneficial for students or people who take a lot of handwritten notes.

I wish I had had an iPad and pencil in college, I did find and used a flashcard app towards the end of college that was very handy. I had to type them up in Excel and upload them but it was great to go through flash cards several times per day when I had a few extra minutes.

So even after the discount you are paying $2500 for a mid-range laptop with bad keyboard and faulty screen and battery. No thanks!

Only appealing deal is the Apple Pencil, I would buy it if it was compatible with my iPad Pro.

Faulty screen and battery? What? With the screen, I assume you mean the connector cable issue which has been resolved for the most part, but battery?

Best Buy still has refurbed open box Apple Pencils for $85. I’ve only bought refurbs from Apple so I don’t know how well that works out with BB.

    An 8-core i9, 2800MB/s storage and a 2880 * 1800 resolution display is a midrange laptop? Come on.

The keyboard was improved in 2018 and further in 2019, and subject to replacement if there are any problems within 4 years of the purchase date.

The screen issue looks to have been addressed in 2018: https://www.macrumors.com/2019/03/05/apple-flexgate-possible-fix/

    There is no battery issue.

Cool it on the trolling. Have a nice weekend.

Dont be alarmed. These are the "normal" prices since before Christmas, atleast for macbook pros. Look at B&H, and filter for "rebates", and you can save as much as $1,100...i think that is the 4TB one....after discount is still over $5k!

Okay, maybe the pencil thing is actually a deal, but it is not very nice compared to the new one....so nobody is buying it. So nobody cares....but it is a trick to make people think they have to buy a new MBP today!

But we know a new model is supposed to be upcoming in September, so better wait to see that before buying the current one. If the new one is great, buy it. Or wait and buy a current generatolion then at a lower price when the new one comes out.

Yes, the cable issue, and not "solved for the most part" hundreds of machines had to be replaced, including mine, so yes, they are faulty. Regarding the battery issue you can read in this same site how many people have the problem.

Oh man, people like you is the reason Apple can get away with middling products and expensive old tech. Yes, these machines have had quality issues, they get hot and throttle performance, you can get these specifications for $1000 from other manufacturers with better heat management.

You’re calling the Intel i9 8-core CPU “expensive old tech”. You should keep up on tech news better. This is a bleeding-edge new chip that Intel just released. People like you are why I enjoy comment threads, please keep it coming.

That's Intel's achievement, and you can get the same chip with any other manufacturer.

Careful, someone may attack you for saying the truth.

There is people in this world that think Apple can do no wrong and would not take an ounce of criticism. There are many things they need to improve, fix and make better, and the more we point it out the better for the consumer.

So why did you refer to this brand new top-end CPU as “mid-range” and “expensive old tech”? This is the chip featured in the $2500 priced MBP in the article. Just admit you were wrong and let’s move on to another nerd fight.

Let me break it down for you since it seems difficult to understand, I was talking mainly about the junk keyboard, it is trash no matter the generation, I was also referring to the faulty screen, which is in fact a defect and it affected the machine I USE, why does it hurt you so much to accept it?

And yes, these machines do not perform the same as others even with a big chip in it, it will just get hot and underclocked as soon as you through serious design tasks, numerical simulations or heavy computing to it. For better performance I have to go to a PC that costs $890 less or to a Linux machine that costs $1000 less than the (already) reduce price they show here. And you can game on them...

You are the same kind of people that did not want a files system on the iPad or that accept the moniker "Pro" on anything. I guess all you do with your devices is consume media.

I greatly prefer the butterfly keyboard over the old scissor type. I wish they made an external keyboard with it and a Touch Bar

You don’t have the guts to admit you’re wrong, I get it perfectly. So it’s got a top-end CPU and top-end SSD, but you’re calling it a “mid-grade” laptop because previous year models had issues? Oh, and you can’t run “numerical simulations” all day without thermal throttling, ok. Just keep moving those goalposts. You might try a grammar checker too, wow.

It is impossible to debate with you, I cannot admit I am wrong when that is not the case.

And by the way, I sure need grammar check sometimes, English is my third language, can you say the same?

5 minute chat and they took care of it. Man Best Buy really is a different company than the one that was going out of business possibly at one point.

On a side note, I do understand some of the gripes, however, PERSONALLY, I love this unit. Albeit it is bran new right now, I am extremely happy with my purchase.
