Hi

Today my Macbook (2010) went into overdrive, apps started to hang. I had to hard reboot the Macbook. When I did it would not start, it hung at the apple logo. Safe mode would not start. System recovery showed hard drive OK. Managed to go back to a restore point to earlier today and it worked. This time I checked Activity Monitor which showed lsd and logd almost 100% CPU each. Opening console shows the below message constantly being logged, which I suspect is the reason, but what does this message mean? I cannot find any record of this message on Google!

Impossible bucket count 26580 when 4096 is the maximum.

Thanks

Try and run this

/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user ; killall Dock

It should rebuild the launch services database.

I wasn't able to get that to work. It would quit the process, but when it restarted it had the same issues. I believe it transferred when cloning to a different drive (expected). So a full rebuild was my only option. The person had left Mail.app logging on and the drive had filled, so I think something got corrupted, and that led to the problem. I used Migration Assistant to do Machine Settings and Other files, but reinstalled applications from scratch and copied the user profiles manually. Back to a working config. Wondering if this worked for the OP.
