I'm very new to M.2 SSD PCIe adaptors & blades, please excuse my ignorance .. I'm here to learn.

Today I bought an M.2-PCIe adaptor ( in Japan for ¥1,980) - I haven't bought a blade yet and am aiming at a Kingston HyperX Predator 240Gb.

Out of curiosity I plugged the ( empty ) card into PCIe slot 4 ... no blade installed.

In Mavericks 10.9.5 on my cMP 4,1 - 5,1 It doesn't show up in System Information / PCI cards in ANY slots. The same result in Sierra 10.12.6.

Is this because it is still un-populated - no blade installed yet ?

If I re-install it in . .. eg: slot 4 with a blade installed can I expect it to show up in Sys Info / PCI cards / ?

( I realise that an installed but un-flashed PC GPU's can cause Sys Info to not show ANY PCIe info so I thought this behaviour strange . .the card is PCIe . .it should be in the list populated or not.

That's 100% normal. This is just really an adaptor, no controller on it. So, nothing to report.

Just like the USB port, it won't report anything if you just plug in a cable, and do not connect anything.

Thanks , I'd completely overlooked the fact that there is no controller ! Obvious ! ( now )

That's a relief. Now I can save up for a Kingston HyperX Predator
