No matter what I do, I can't get to the page that has the new YouTube updates. My page looks completely different from the one posted on 9to5 Mac. I tried mobile, touchscreen, and standard versions. I have an iPhone 4. I tried rebooting and force quitting Safari. Hmmm.

It doesn't play HD video over 3G on iPhone 4. HQ over 3G is the same quality as Wi-Fi YouTube videos on the previous iPhones (360p).

It looks MUCH better than 360p.

Not sure what it is, but 360p is not believable at all.

Nice, works great. Now if only I could delete the preloaded app. Here's hoping they just update it to redirect, don't really feel like I need TWO youtube apps.

+1

I just replaced my YouTube app with this shortcut xD

Although is true that we can only get the 720p videos under WiFi.

But yeah, I hope that YT upgrades to HTML5 soon, atleast for mobile devices, it would do nicely for the time being.

Actually...the native app displays the highest quality hd video. The web app page does not. Don't believe me? View this video on both and look at the clarity of the logo in the lower right corner and the overall video.

Ps. You will need the iPhone 4 screen to see the native app's better quality. Big difference on my phone between the native app and web app.

I had to change the language to English US to get the nice shiny youtube logo.

I still get this funky icon

frankly don't see any diff between the web and the built in app

I've had so many problems with the YouTube native app taking ages to load videos that I still think I'll throw it to the sharks, but it does look better than the web app there.

the default youtube app's quality is better than the new youtube web app if its on wifi.
however on 3G the web app is better than the default app.

turns out it doesn't work if the language is set to English (UK) - needs to be set to English (US) :)

It a lot better than the iPhone app. However, I hope the incorporate a feature to allow us to reply to comments eventually...

Go into your Safari settings on the phone and clear the cache, history, and cookies. Then relaunch m.youtube.com.

its 420p, same resolution as SD tv

No, this is false. Plus, the resolution of an SDTV is 480i (640x480).

It looks MUCH better than 360p.

No, I am pretty sure it is 360p. Look on YouTube's desktop website. There are three versions of quality that most videos are available in. There is 360p (MP4 file), 480p (FLV file [flash]), and 720p (MP4 file). Only MP4 files are compatible on the iPhone 4. Therefore, if it's not 720p that is being played, it is 360p. Plus, 360p isn't that bad. Sure, it's not HD quality, but it's not the horrendous pile of pixelated s**t that streams over 3G on the native YouTube app.

EDIT: Interesting... I downloaded a 360p video from YouTube and its dimensions are 480x270, which would technically make it 270p. Makes me wonder why they call that size 360p as it is obviously not.

Too bad Youtube's servers are the slowest f*&%ing servers in the entire world. Seriously, I know it takes a lot of bandwidth to host videos like that, but if you can't handle it, THEN DON'T DO IT!

Even on wifi I've been buffering an HD movie trailer on my iPhone for several minutes and have gotten almost no where. Meanwhile, I can speed test my internet connection and get 13 Mbps.

I hate Youtube. :(
