I am in the market for a new MBP and read a lot about the leaks on the supposedly upcoming 2021 MBPs. My question to you out there: Its the current M1 MBP still a buy or should I better wait for the new ones? THX for your advice.

I'd go with the air. That guidance hasn't ever waivered.

There are new m-series MacBooks coming, but I wouldn't expect them to start shipping until late August or early September. They may be announced earlier (perhaps as soon as WWDC).

Can you hold out that long?

From what I“ve seen I prefer the current design. So maybe I‘ll go with a current M1 MBP with 16 gigs of ram. What do you think?

Another vote for the Air - I don't think you will be disappointed with the battery life. It's very good - hard to say how long it lasts though as varies a lot with type of use. Air is also a bit cheaper than Pro, so less remorse if a new laptop comes out later on this year.

Pro is the one to get *right now* if you want the touch bar, since that seems to be going away.

Consider this though: what do you expect a next-gen Air/Pro to do that the current one cannot? If nothing springs to mind it might be worth letting early adopters figure out the kinks of the new design. There always seems to some kinks with new models: cf staingate, dodgy backlights, dodgy keyboards, etc. The current M1 macs we know are very good and - I hope - we know their flaws too (limited display outputs and excessive SSD writes being the main one).

Good thought concerning design flaws. The current one is a proven design and I really like. I can’t think of a task only the upcoming MBPs can do.

Personally I'd be the MBA with 16GB of RAM or wait it out.

This is how I feel. If an Air fits the bill, go ahead an pull the trigger. But if you think a MBP is a better fit, I'd wait for the next round.

What‘s wrong with the current MBP?

Nothing specific - I just feel we're getting close to seeing the new models announced and decided to wait. I didn't think there was a huge amount to differentiate the Air and M1 MBP, so my hope is we'll see some significant improvements this Fall (>16GB, more ports, etc).

The current one fits my needs perfectly. And I just couldn’t resist the 200 € discount I got. So I ordered a 13“ 16 512. 😁

I just go the M1 13" MBP and I love it. Battery life is insane. Depending on what you are doing, you will get something between 15 and 20 hours with brightness at 50%.

That's awesome! I'll have to remind myself, where I put the power brick last time I used it.
