Closed the lid on my M1 Air for 10 min. Opened it and screen is black. Tried holding down power button but all im getting is constant light tapping noise coming out of the speaker. How do I reset this thing? I had an open project in there.

Probably time to contact Apple Support with it being brand new?

I have the same problem, just discovered this morning. From what I've read, this seems to be caused by power being plugged in through a third party hub. Was that the case for you?

The solution I've seen it to take it to Apple to get replaced. Let me know how you've followed up on this as I'm curious to know. Thanks.

This does appear to be a common denomintor for the ones that fail. It also seems to be USB-C docks if I'm not mistaken.

Yes as I have described before, my exact steps were, working in FCP, battery at 20% so I closed the lid and plugged into a RavPower 60w hub for 10 min while I went to drink tea. Came back and no life. Tried every sort of reboot reset online for hours. Hears the subtle tapping when out ear to laptop. Let it remain closed for 2 days. Nothing. Took it to Apple store and tech was sure they can reset it. Came back apologizing that they opened it and see no sign of damage or fry but they can’t get it to power on. Got refund and decided to wait for next gen. This is a version of Mac I don’t want. Sure it’s fast and stays cool and would serve me for years due to the speed but obviously it may not after warranty expires.

It just happened to me to my 2019 macbook pro. Been using it with a dell dock for 6 months at work. I should've realized something was up when the cable would only charge my macbook when it was oriented a certain way but it's an expensive dell product that's worked fine for all my other coworkers. Now my macbook is probably a brick and just outside of normal warranty so I can't have it replaced by a local apple authorized retailer. Luckily, I have an extended warranty but am overseas so I have to wait until Covid dies down to fly back and exchange it. Apple, "it just works" is ********.
