These new Mac mini's are looking better and better. I purchased the current Mini back in 2019 so by the time my Mac is no longer supported the Mini should have made a massive jump in performance in about 6 yrs.

It is mind boggling how many people are trying to downplay the performance by comparing to a 3080 or other dedicated cards. This is an integrated GPU. I don't know of another integrated GPU that is that good.
Yup. Facts destroy their position.

Yes, we KNOW the comparison is against older cards. But they are discrete desktop cards. Look at any other INTEGRATED GPU at the moment and let us know how they compare.

I bought an early 2020 MBP with an i7 and both the CPU and GPU are both jokes in comparison to other machines and what the M1 brings to the table.

Those of you who are downplaying the M1 are showing us how much you love to hug your Pentium 4s.

It's not hyperbole to say that Apple Silicon can upend the entire CPU/GPU industry. If they can do this with an entry-level chip, who knows how far they can can go with a high-end chip? How are the likes of Intel and AMD going to respond to keep their customers happy?
It's about 4x better than the intel GPU it's replacing. Given Intel GPUs are considered garbage, and the 1050 is an old, low end card, this doesn't really mean much at all. The M1 chip could run circles around with Wii or 360 too, but nobody would consider that anything great either.

Mindblowing that this is just the beginning. I can’t remember feeling this kind of Apple hype since, like, early-gen iPhones.

Let’s borrow some Apple nomenclature even though I’m sure (or I hope, for their sake) they’ll never use it for such, just so we can theorize. This is their first gen—someday there’ll be an S version, a Plus version, a Pro version, a Pro Max version…even a mini version, one that might perform lesser than its generational equivalent but will have AMAZING power efficiency/temperature control—imagine a laptop made out of anodized aluminum that’s cool to the touch during use at all times. (Read: the crazy ones must dream so innovation can happen!)

This gives me something to be excited about with Macs for a long, long time. What a blessing after such a long stretch of focusing virtually singularly on iPhones.

Hartley, you may want to update the article to at least discuss integrated graphics in the most recent MacBook Air and Mac mini machines.

It may be fun to think about what major desktop cards will be beat in the future. But most important for people who have been buying these machines is how much improved the gpu power is over just the previous year.

It also shows how the M1 threatens Intel beyond sheer cpu, by far outperforming other packaged hardware Intel is still selling to Apple.

See these posts:
Intel would need to have their integrated Iris GPU equivalent to a Nividia 1080 or AMD RX580, and their CPU equivalent to a Core i9 while sipping power better than the Y-series chips to match what Apple has done here with the M1.

And you can get this in a Mac Mini starting at $699.
The only fair comparison is iGPU to iGPU. Mostly Intel I guess. I will have a look.

A lot of people seem to mis that this smokes the Intel Iris and Intel UHD 630 graphics that ship in all mac books to this day.

I believe the proud accomplishment has to do with TDP and this is an all in one CPU/GPU chip. However, this is not intended to replace a high-end GPU graphics card. I believe Apple is doing something special within mobile to pull this chip off. They still have a long way to go to compete against Radeon and Nvidia for overall high performance supreme.

That means you dont know the diff between an gpu that is build on the chip vs that nvdidia dedicated gpu....
Tell us what integrated gpu build into the chip can come close to M1
You can still build a faster PC over the Macbook and Mac Mini for the money. Although what's impressive is the all in one CPU/GPU with low TDP. That is something you can't get in a build. Again its benefits and drawbacks to both designs.

Well they are benchmarking against old generation AMD, ATI cards

those cards had been released at 2017

Nowadays both AMD, Nvidia play muuuch higher

amazing chipsets for a mobile phone, no doubt

Xbox Ones Series S = 4 teraflops at 300 euros (and it includes other hardware apart from the graphic card)

Xbox One Series X = 12 teraflops

Custom PC = 20 teraflops (and isn't the highest you can get with a single video card)
At 10W?

It’s an integrated GPU on a first gen CPU. What are you not understanding about this?

I look forward to the second and third generation MBP models with updated M processors. This is a great start to be sure. Apple started out slow with the A-Series then hammered massive performance gains year after year. Should be a fun decade ahead.

Everyone seems to be talking about games, but the GPU is not only for games. This benchmark says the GPU in the M1 will help apps like Lightroom, Capture One, Photoshop, Affinity Photo (to name things I use) much better than previous integrated graphics and will probably be plenty enough for that. That is unqualified good news.

Seems like M1 already catches up on base model 16" MacBook GPU (Radeon Pro 5300M) and it a MacBook Air chip. This means there is no doubt whatever chip they announce for 14" & 16" MacBook Pro, it will easily best the entire Intel/AMD MacBook Pro line-up.

I think you'll find it's the article comparing the M1 with dedicated GPU's rather than the people....I guess the people are saying well if you want to compare like that, then compare it with cards that are seriously much faster rather than the one from 5 years ago that are not?
I think you might be missing the point , there is currently NO iGPU that can compete with it , so they are looking for the relative dGPU to fight against.
As I gave the boxing analogy before , the M1 is fighting in the lightweight category due to its weight (10W) , it is the NEW undisputed unified (memory) world champion , now ppl are asking , can he beat the bigger boys ? and now we start looking up and see where is the limit , it will be silly to compare it against the 350W behemoth , it cannot beat the HW champion , M1 is a lightweight , but it can punch above its weight class ,and that's the point.

Also FYI on the CPU side it can beat the HW champs in single core and be competitive in multicore of the non HEDT machines.

Hope you enjoyed the boxing analogy , enjoy your day.

So, this is the fastest cpu ever made / currently available in the best sellings laptops. Now we know why developers were not allowed to upload benchmark data.

This is one of the most ridiculous comments here. Intel's current integrated graphics don't even stack up to dGPU's from 2017 so what in hell are you talking about?

Can't innovate anymore my ass. Show me Intel's integrated graphics that are as good as any dGPU from 5 years ago. Intels iGPU's suck terribly. Show me where Dell, HP, Samsung or Lenovo is innovating like this. The M1 Chip is amazing!! Good Job Apple. Hush the haters.

As long as someone enters a PC store, with 1299$ to spend, and goes out with a gaming laptop with a RTX 2060 knowing that is somehow worst on single-cpu processing, multi-thread, battery life, weight, noise, photo and video edition.
