Hello again friends. My battery usage drops drastically. My screen time is maybe 8 hours or so. That's a terrible number. I was using Ventura. I came back to Monterey for problems with fluency and battery issues. Although performance and fluency have improved. I guess the battery issue has not been fixed unfortunately. My friend's computer has 94 battery health, it goes for 15 hours at 70% charge. My 100% cycle has been 1.5 months since the 16th. It goes for 9 hours and 10 hours on charge, my battery health is 100%. I know you all will say take it to Apple. But I can't take it because I'm studying in TRNC. I'm going to get into trouble with plane tickets and so on. Now I have a few theories that I will share with you, I hope you don't get bored... Updating ventura from settings right now. But I'm afraid that my fluency will deteriorate again... My other assumption is that maybe there was a problem because I installed it with USB boot, and downloading Montere directly from the internet while in recovery mode... Maybe it will work? Or ventura installation with USB boot... I'm very happy with the fluency right now, I only have problems with the battery. Would you recommend using it like this and taking it to Apple when I return to Istanbul in the summer? I will be glad if our information friends reply. And do you have similar problems?
(Extra note: Prior to this I had the M1 version (which was 8 GB. I was getting much better times on it).

It was as if I couldn't get that 60Hz 60FPS on the desktops that had such fluency problems in Ventura. Or for another example, while the application was shrinking with the genie effect, the fluency was deteriorating and descending. Sometimes it was dripping. And while the newcomer scene isn't twitching in the Manager at first. After a while, it was placed in a drop way. So I was experiencing what I describe as this type of problem. But in Monterey it needs to be more fluid, like that. But here's why sometimes the battery issue bothers me...

Additional information maybe a trivial thing, but: tell me, I observed something; In both versions (Monterey, ventura) there is an application in use in the same scenario Geekbench 5th entry Running with 3.17GHz M1 in the same scenario. m1 running at 3.19GHz in Monterey.

Monterey: I'm using 12.6.1, I looked and saw that 12.6.2 has just arrived. It says bug fixes. Let's see if it solves my problem without making it worse.. But they said that there are battery problems and performance problems from a foreign source, I'm undecided.

Hope it works out for you. I have a 2020 MBA and initially my battery life was amazing. It still isn't bad, but it's the OS (Ventura) that I believe has reduced my battery life (estimate 12-15 hrs). I have to laugh though; I'm replying to you from a 2008 MacBook Pro and It will give me 2-3 hours battery life! (with a "new" battery). Anyway, I would suggest waiting until you can have an Apple tech look at it.

Are you suggesting I don't update?

guys, use this ultimate battery protector
I have a MacBook Air 22 since initial launch and the battery only got 24 cycles

but the battery will still degrade nonetheless

my mac has 97 cycles only , but system reports 95% health , and using coconut it's even worse , i get 88% of the original capacity

so idk if it helps that much really

Yes it will degrade anyway but less using AlDente for laptops which spend of the time plugged in hence sitting at 100% charge. Not so useful for machines which charge overnight and on battery during day.

When a battery is fully charged the cell voltage is about 4.3V. At 50% charge it is about 3.8V. The cell degradation is more rapid at a higher voltage.

My 25 month old M1 MBA is mostly plugged in and I have used AlDente for 22 of the 25 months to limit max charge to 60% on average. Apple System Report value is 100% and Coconut value is 98.4% Cycles 98.

The third party apps report the instant value of health from the ioreg value. This fluctuates up and down, and will usually be lower than the Apple value.

IDK if AlDente has contributed to my battery status but probably. I don't know what it would have been without AlDente.

I think it really depends on too many variables to really know what is helping. I use Apple's Optimized Battery Charging with Ventura (and previously Monterey) on my M2 MacBook Air. I've had the M2 since July 27 (about 150 days) and it has 64 charge cycles and is still at 101% design capacity (according to ioreg values.) It started out at about 102% design capacity so almost no degradation at all after 64 cycles. On the other hand, my M1 MacBook Air, using the same Optimized Battery Charging on Monterey (and previously Big Sur) shows about 95% design capacity after almost 2 years and at a somewhat less number of cycles (I don't have the exact numbers available.)

I think it is mostly a lottery depending on what battery chemistry you happen to get.

I agree that variation between batteries is much greater than other components and means individual reports and comparisons are moot.

But I also believe that there is science in the reduced degradation by avoiding prolonged time at 100% charge..... but probably not enough to justify all the hoopla around battery life optimisation, at least for computers. For 20 years I have had MacBooks which were mostly plugged in and at 100% and I was quite satisfied with the longevity of the batteries, before Optimisation was a thing.

BTW as I have mentioned in other threads, Apple Battery Optimisation has never worked for me. I have never seen charge held to 80%, so I use AlDente instead. Now that the increased degradation is known about I don't feel inclined to ignore it.

I find that very strange. I’ve now use optimized battery charging on Big Sur, Monterey, and now Ventura with two different MacBooks—both the M1 and M2 MBAs—and it has always worked well.

I’ve also used it with two very different working styles. With the M1, I was working mostly from home and plugged in. I would stay at 80% for days at a time. Now I’m working mostly on-site on battery and charging overnight and I frequently see a hold at 80% until my normal time to leave for work. As a matter of fact, I have to be careful if I leave at an earlier than usual time because the MBA might not be fully charged yet and I never bring a charger.

On the other hand, if you have a solution that works for you, it doesn’t much matter.

I should have said that I have only given Apple OBC a fair trial when my first M1 MBA was new in Nov 2020. I left it for 3 months without success, then AlDente for M1 was released. I think it was you who said it took several weeks to kick in.
When I got a second MBA in April 2021 I only gave it two weeks before switching to AlDente.
I got a used M1 16" MBP a few months ago and put it straight on AlDente.
So my bad OBC experience was all with early Big Sur. It may well work perfectly now, but I would stick with AlDente anyway for the extra control.
