Now that the M1 iMac has been out for about 90 days, I'm curious to learn what actual owners think of it, pro and con. I have a silver 8/8/16GB/1TB model. In general, I'm very pleased. The off-white bezels I thought I'd hate, I actually like. My desk faces a white wall and the bezels are less distracting than my former 27" iMac's. Love the Touch ID -- great when waking from sleep and for my password manager, Apple Pay, etc. I don't find the highly touted speakers to be anything special. They're certainly adequate, but the 27 seemed better to me. Ergonomically, I like that the top of the display is lower than the 27. I've had an M1 MBA since it first came out, so performance is strong, as expected. On the negative side, there is a glitch when attempting to Airplay after waking. This is documented in other threads, although it doesn't seem to be widespread (or it doesn't bother people as much as it does me). Also, there are times when I miss the extra real estate of the 27" display. On the 'don't care' side is the colors. I don't understand why they needed seven colors when I expect three or four would have sufficed, but that's purely subjective (other than it requires a lot of SKUs for retail). Anyway....am interested in knowing what other owners think. Thanks!

Have the same model with 512Gb and the white bezels fit very nicely with the white of the keyboard and trackpad. Agree on Touch ID. Superfast and regarding the colours, to each his own. Cons zero!

Mine has simply integrated itself into my workday, so it has quickly become a tool of the job. In fact this is probably amongst the easiest and more productive transitions in systems I've had while doing this particular job for the last 17 years - and about 10 systems swaps, though half those have been Windows PCs.

The 24-inch suits my workspace much better than the 27-inch iMac did, and is far more comfortable to use. It is also much, much, faster. My daily intranet updates take less than half the time to compile and code, and uploading is faster too.

Other work is largely text based and nothing much helps Word go any quicker, (though LibreOffice is distinctly faster) but graphics, photo and document layout and editing are much smoother. Video editing is also much more seamless now, and overall, the impression is that my Mac-based workday is more productive. And I have more space on my desk, since it can sit a little further away on my desk, due to the smaller stand.

There are downsides. The 4k screen is superb quality, but I was rather spoiled by the extra real estate of the 5k. And while the 4 ports are adequate, I'm not keen on the fact that much greater expansion of storage or media requires a new hub, which are typically not inexpensive. It is also not quite as stable on the desk. Front to back is good, but it can be tipped side to side a great deal easier than the 27-inch. Not surprisingly perhaps since it is lighter and the stand is a bit narrower, but in my workspace I need to go behind the system to get at file space, and it's easy to give it a knock while passing.

I rarely use the speakers because I have a HomePod (and Amazon Studio) for music, and both/either are better sounding anyway, but the speakers are plenty adequate. They are less loud than the 27-inch iMac was, which might seem to be therefore 'less good', but they are actually far cleaner sounding, and have much better dynamic range. The 27-inch iMac would tend to lose quieter sounds into the background while these don't.

For video conferencing and meetings, the 24-inch is truly great. The camera quality is excellent, though also good enough for others to get a better view of the junk in my office. The microphones are also excellent, and I'm told provide much cleaner audio than the 27 did.

The proof of the pudding is in switching back to the 27-inch, and the experience of doing that is really quite disappointing. It feels slow, laggy and poorly responsive by comparison - and rather too big.

I don't have any issues with the design and styling of it, because I didn't buy it to look at so much as to use, and because it performs so well and seamlessly, I don't really ever notice stuff like colors or the presence or absence of a logo. The bezels do notably help focus however, because in my workspace, which is a sort-of off-white/cream, they are much less of a distraction. Overall though, after a day of using it intensively, I feel less fatigued than with the 27-inch.

All in all, I'm very happy, and consider the M1 iMac a great purchase.

Good to hear people are happy with theirs. I ordered mine nearly two weeks ago and it's still "processing". Patience is a virtue, I know.

Here is my take. Hopefully it can help somebody in a similar situation make a good purchase. I purchased the 16GB 8/8 in silver. Aesthetically speaking, it is a pleasure to look at.

Overall, I love the machine. One of the best features for me is the form factor. Both my wife and I have desks in our bedroom as our office is the kids playroom. Because of this, I have a small, compact desk. Previously I had a 13" Macbook, which was nice, but the screen was too small. The Imac gives me desktop power, a big screen, a nice keyboard and mouse all with only one cable. Its really amazing. I know all the tech specs and benchmarks get a lot of airtime, but the form factor was the most important selling point for me. The 27" would have been too big, and too thick to work. This just blends in on my desk giving me a 24" screen while using almost no desk space.

I'm not a power user. I'm not a gamer or video editor. I mainly use the computer mainly for writing(word), internet browsing, and occasional family photo editing. Not that I don't delve into more power intensive tasks at times. Everything runs smooth and fast. A pleasant computing experience.

I've got no gripes against the speakers either. I play apple music while I write and am satisfied. I play the music at a low volume and it sounds great. At higher volumes some will be disappointed. Me not so much, as keeping a small form factor was more important than a loud speaker system.

The screen is awesome. It speaks for itself.
The OS is great as always.
The keyboard is one of my favorite accessories. A pleasure to use. Only gripe is that I wish it was backlit.
Lastly, I like the mouse. Using the touch gestures while web browsing is wonderful. I would not change it out for a replacement or a trackpad.

At this point I have no negatives to report. Its been outstanding machine. A massive upgrade to my Macbook. It has fit seamlessly into my life and I have no regrets about my purchase. Having all in one desktop with one cable it truly impressive. Makes a small desk completely functional.

I would highly recommend an Imac for anyone in a situation like me.
