I ordered the base model. I know it is like a MacBook Air in performance ... except that the iMac has fans so it should actually sustain its performance. I have not used ethernet ... like forever ... and the two ports are exactly what I need. But I realize I may not represent the average user ... I am just a real lite user. Been waiting for this a long time and with my 2017 iMac trade-in ... the cost is under $1000 (including tax). Good enough!
That's fair enough, glad you are happy with it. :)I don,t use WTFI myself though.:)

I have my main data on another drive too, and sort of can't believe my boot drive of OS/Apps/Mail data/Other OS-like data is taking up almost 500 GB. A large part of is Logic and Final Cut Pro loops etc., but I think that only added up to 350 GB?? Where did 150 GB of fluff come from??

It feels safer to have a separate data drive and a boot drive, but I wonder if it's just as good to have it all on one drive like the vast majority of users do and just back up with Time Machine. If I go that route then I would get a 2 TB internal SSD. How much more to go from a 1 TB internal to a 2 TB internal SSD? Is it much less expensive to get a Thunderbolt external drive for my data drive?
I guess the reason for more internal SSD storage is if you need the fastest SSD access. So, it will be more expensive but it will be faster. I like to keep everything internal except for archives and Time Machine back-ups ... I am a much less intensive user (lite office work) ... I am not doing video. Yes, it is nice to have a separate boot drive and data drive but I can't keep track of all the components at my age!

I guess I could move around my home office set-up (family room) ... but I don't wish to run the ethernet wiring everywhere. But, then again, I already have wired two of the three desktops ... so what is another set of throw rugs over the cables! You've got me thinking.

*one more thing ,
. 😆
like he says in the video if you want to sell it in the future who,s going to buy a yellow or pink one  Go with the blue or silver.

But if you use the trade-in they take all colors!

Looking back at the G3 and G4 designs at Apple have gotten beyond lazy. The iMac needs a full redesign!

Yes you are right there, but they might think the same as the guy in the video. They would be harder to sell.I think i would go for the blue one. :)
I was going to go blue ... but then I decided to go for green.

I was thinking that way at first ... but then I was thinking about the way the internals had to be isolated from the screen so the need of the chin. Isolation of the speakers was important. Lots of people wanted the chin to disappear ... make the machine thicker? All sorts of ideas were drawn ... but I think the flat piece of glass makes sense ... I have no problem with the white border. I still would have liked an Apple logo on the front.

We all thought the Desperate Dan chin would go.I am also supprised that there isn,t a Apple logo on the chin.o_O

Apart from the chin i thought it was.o_O
Actually, I like the design ... but I would have loved it if they did the sunflower once again! A 24 inch swivel with the base containing big speakers and everything ... and all the connectivity in a side door ... Steve loved doors.

yeah i was reading up on that so i might get a little extra storage after all lol. think i’m going to go with the 16g of RAM and 1tb internal drive. i just bought a 5 bay hard drive usb 3 enclosure for my large hard drives 10-16tb and am downloading windows ARM build for the M1 chip and Parallels as well. going to see if i can replace my 2012 mac pro with this! (or just use that one to run windows full time for games with my titan xp card in it)
Also, there is Codeweavers Crossover if you just need to run certain applications ... then, maybe, you don't need the full Windows installation. Haven't tried it though.

So much focus on continuity/handoff and user switching on the introduction and they forgot to mention that if you use fast user switching handoff and continuity stop working..
Since Yosemite.. they are clowns!
Happy to report that this is indeed fixed and working in macOS 12.1 RC! ?

Well yes, kinda.
Unlock with Apple Watch swill plays up, automatic AirPods switching doesn’t work because it confuses which AirPods belongs to which account and handoff works partially: try to type an sms and handoff to another device, the text doesn’t transfer.

It’s a step in the right direction, but still not how it should be. And I believe that’s the reason why universal control has been postponed.

Update: still playing up.

What a joke.
What exactly is still not working for you? I can reproduce what you wrote with regards to messages handoff. The text doesn't transfer, but it jumps to the right conversation at least. Unlock with Apple Watch works fine for both me and my wife for the first time. AirPods switching works better than before, too.
It might not be flawless, but for the first time in years, I can have two different users on my Mac signed in to their respective iCloud accounts without breaking handoff/continuity features for the other user. I'm really happy they finally fixed this.

AirPods switching doesn’t work because my AirPods are listed under my partner’s device list, although no one ever paired them on her account, Apple Watch unlock works sporadically and personal hotspot also works intermittently.

Last night when my partner switched to her account her phone wasn’t detected.

They surely changed a few things but it still doesn’t work well.

What really makes me angry is that this is going on for 7 years now, with 20 reports from my end and a whopping 117 emails exchanged with an apple engineer. And it still doesn’t work.

On Monterey beta 4 it was working perfectly, then they screwed up everything again.
I should have stayed on beta 4, seriously.

I also believe this mess is the reason why universal control is still not enabled. Bluetooth and iCloud pairing issues.

I won’t even mention not getting 4 USB ports on the base model. The design just kills me. The color on the back looks ok, but the pastel like color on the front is very feminine looking. And if they’re going to keep the chin, at least put the Apple logo. It’s like they were still finishing designing it and just said, “Screw it, good enough.”
I'd be happy if they at least replaced the chin with something useful

The only change I wish for is the Apple logo on the chin. My base iMac is perfect ... with my 8 - 1 = 7 GPUs, one fan, and two USB ports! But, I do have an issue ...
