Anyone else notice battery drains at about 1% per min under GPU load? Battery starts out at 90% then drops to 87% after 3 minutes into GPU benchmark. That's roughly 1.67 to 2 hours of battery life with anything GPU taxing like gaming.

Are you at all familiar with how modern computing devices work? This isn't even remotely surprising or an issue. In fact, gaming for 5-6 hours on battery is pretty freaking amazing.
 
5-6 hrs when gaming is amazing. Its not at all bad considering the battery inside the ipad pro.

Honestly getting 5 to 6 hours of use out of a device while taxing the GPU is really good. Most gaming laptops last like 2 hours unplugged.

You're right it's actually more aggressive. I've updated it to say 1.67 hours (1% per min) to 2 hours (3% for 3min 35secs best case).
 
This is one of the reasons why they won't put an M1 chip into the iPhone. If only people would stop spreading such bull**** ideas.

Frequency doesn't scale linearly with power consumption so beyond a sweet spot power consumption scales exponentially so it's possible to scale down an M1 in frequency to work within the battery constraints of an iPhone. Question is, will an M1 at lower frequency outperform an A12Z.
 
We said that they would never put the M1 chip in an iPad... :p

That was just branding though.

With iPhones, power consumption and thermal dissipation are legitimate concerns, in addition to package size. Those two extra high power CPU cores, four extra GPU cores and double the memory lanes all have power implications.

I just got mine in last week and I've noticed the same thing. I don't game on it, but using procreate for 3 hours I dropped 20% battery. I also have a gen 3 and 4 ipad pro and don't see the same battery drops. The M1 and Gen 3 are cellular versions and I've turned off cellular to compare battery drain and the M1 drains way faster than the Gen 3 model. Also, I've noticed the M1 getting warm with the screen on and sitting in my lap. I imagine it's due to the new display - I use it at about 60% brightness and there's a noticeable difference in temperature when using procreate.

That means you could use Procreate on your iPad for about 15 hours straight. How long would you expect the battery to last? Fifteen hours seems very respectable.
