I think it means that Apple will encourage developers the to optimize their apps for whatever devices they choose. This * 1000.
Apple has removed the CPU/RAM bottleneck. Now you just choose your OS & input method (those 2 are inseparable, which is what iPad haters fail to understand).
This WWDC is going to be REALLY interesting.
I was several pages in and didn’t see it yet - so, figured I would ask...
...has it been confirmed how much of the additional 8gb of RAM in the 1TB/2TB models is actually usable or is the increased ram for “managing the increased storage capacity”?
[like the extra 2gb (4gb —> 6gb) the 1TB model iPad Pros received in the past]
The best “hybrid” method I could find is Jump Desktop. I was going 12.9 for that reason no matter what, so that now it has the full M1 is awesome. I have a PC and a Mac Mini (M1) at the office. So I can just open Jump Desktop and use either of those machines from my iPad wherever I am. My MBP is just about ready for retirement.Yes! I will put off work knowing it requires using my 2019 MBP. I don't like using it. The heat is a problem. The noise is a problem. The screen quality is a problem. The antiquated clamshell is a problem. I crave the day iPad Pro performs like an iPad and functions like a Mac. I want a hybrid device.
Since this is a rumor site, in July of 2020 it was rumored that FCP was coming to the iPad in summer of 2021 which didn’t make much sense back then. Also, a patent was filed some time ago that allows the processor in an iPhone to be used as additional processing power for a Mac, which also didn’t make sense back then since intel processors were being used. Now, we can imagine using the iPad Pro as a second HDR screen for film editing while leveraging the horsepower of two M1s simultaneously (or 2.5 if you also have an iPhone 12)...
Apple's M1 iPad Pro is available with either 8GB RAM or 16GB RAM, the most memory that's ever been made available in an iPad model.

iPad Pro models with 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB of storage will come with 8GB RAM, while iPad Pro models with 1TB or 2TB of storage will feature 16GB RAM.
It does not appear that there will be a way to customize lower storage iPad Pro models with the upgraded RAM, so those who want the 16GB RAM option will need to opt for higher storage tiers. Both the 11 and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models are available with up to 2TB storage.
The iPad Pro will be available for order on April 30, but orders will not ship out until late May.

As a fellow Surface Pro owner I can confirm touch is basically a second class citizen on Windows 10. With that said I would much rather have it then not have it. The pen can function fairly well as a mouse you can hover and it even has right click. Just being able to scroll or zoom with touch is nice. Sure, trying to peck your way through the UI is not ideal but I wouldn’t give it up.Surface Pro owner here. Please don't be fooled into thinking Windows 10 has anything but an afterthought of true tablet/touch support. It's not good in the least. I basically leave my SP6 in "desktop mode" connected to the keyboard and dock at all times because as a Windows 10 tablet it's poor, and the adoption rate of high dps/touch in standard Windows applications is even more scarce.
Problem is, trying to make an OS that's targeted to keyboard and mouse environments, while simultaneously supporting touch, gestures, and the expected behavior of a tablet is FAR more difficult than it would seem, and MS has shown us over the last decade it's just not a great idea. Apple is wise to not repeat that mistake.
That being said, I think the SP6 *hardware* is fantastic and was the desktop/laptop general purpose replacement I wanted.
I need to find that rumor, there was one that spelled out all the future variants. My guess was off because I’d assumed they’d keep the iPad and Mac bound chips separate. Understanding that, it changes some of the expectations going forward. Just like the A8 is still in a shipping product, the M1 or some variant may, at some point in the future, be the old reliable standby still puttering away like a champ in some shipping product.Rather surprised no-one has mentioned it.
And before anyone states "8gb of RAM is too much for just managing storage", it makes sense that Apple would reuse an existing chip rather than create a new variant.

I mean that was pretty obvious the way big surr is designed. It’s designed for touch. Being on a non touch device makes no sense unless this was always the plan. Which I believe it was.lol this confirms it, these are 100% getting Big Sur (or some equivalent) this September
The software event is called WWDC, grasshopper.Somehow i’m actually disappointed in the new iPad. The new hardware is great, but i don’t remember hearing much in new OS changes. My biggest gripe with the iPP has been that the software is out paced by the hhardware, but now that seems to have gotten worse.
They advertise the new XDR display and compare it to the Pro Display, but is it still limited to a brightness slider and True Tone? Can we have custom profiles and calibration?
Even with the thunderbolt, just a bandwidth increas? No new display settings?
I’m glad the price hasn’t changed much, but I wonder when the software will catch up to the hardware. I have a 2018 1TB, so i don’t really have the upgrade itch, but I’m disappointed that this doesn’t seems like something i really want to upgrade to. I hope the next batch of MBPs dont have 5G and miniLED displays...

This iPad Pro is getting Mac OS with in two years tops.
I don’t care what apple says in public about it. I watch actions not words. Their actions point to making the iPad Pro the first touch screen Mac.
But not all iPads. Only the pro. The others will still run upscaled iPhone software.
I feel iPad OS 15 will be more professional like full moniter support and other real computer OS QOL changes, It will be nothing more, but a stop gap tell the next mac OS is fully ready.
It’s coming. We all know it. Don’t trust a thing any company says. Apple was the one that said we were holding are iPhones wrong when that busted **** couldn’t get signal because of a design flaw.
Anything a company says publicly is Pr ********.
Not. Fast. Enough!!How long until someone hacks this to run MacOS?
No, you just have it go into Desktop mode when attached to the keyboard. That would be the ideal solution.I think they may release a dual boot version of iOS and MacOS at WWDC. The new iPad Pro is now essentially the same hardware as a Mac, the newly increased RAM and storage would make running MacOS work much better. Rather than crowbar together a touch based OS and desktop WIMP OS keep them separate but let users switch depending on the physical use situation and personal preference. everything is now in place it just needs OS updates. Personally I think it would be a fantastic option
Same with me - the RAM bump fixed the Flash-sizeWasn’t sure if I needed 1TB, but the ram justifies the tier bump
Yes - that would be heaven for Road-Warriors - one device to rule them allNo, you just have it go into Desktop mode when attached to the keyboard. That would be the ideal solution.
