I just bought the same for $700 after tax. I would've loved that deal

Maybe i overpaid, but 16/512 M1 is going for higher on eBay
I usually compare Apple item prices on eBay and swappa then go from there.

If CPU is more important, then look at the M2.

I have this configuration and it's quite capable but it wasn't enough so I got a Studio which has enough for me.
I’ve seen quite a few review videos showing the m2 doesn’t provide much of a performance bump for the price.

If cpu is more important would you get m2 mac with 8gb of ram over a 16gb m1?

I've found a m1 mac mini with the same specs in my area but the seller is selling for $700 :(

I am relatively new to Mac OS. How do I make sure it's legit? The person lives nearby but I do not know him. I am responding to a Marketplace ad.

I'd ask him some questions to see if there's any general shady intentions like:
  • Why are you selling?
  • Are there any functional issues with it?
  • Are you comfortable meeting in a public place like a starbucks or police station?
  • Can you send over a screen shot of the serial number?
  • What forms of payment do you accept?
If they don't answer that doesn't mean they necessarily have bad intentions, that could just mean they're not familiar with how apple products work. If they give some questionable answers they could be trying to hide something especially if the police station question causes radio silence.

If it turns out they ship only just delete, block and possibly report the seller. Also never meet at their place, always meet in a public setting.

Get his real name and phone number and check him out. I, as a seller or buyer, post my real name, address and phone number. I also post BlackMagic and DriveDX diagnostic data along with battery health and a history of the system if I'm selling.

I have the system set up when someone arrives to look at a system so that they can play around with it.

I generally give the buyer a week to change their mind as I like the stuff that I buy; it just gets to the point where I have too much equipment.

When I averaged the last 25 completed/sold Mini's with this config on Ebay it was $711 plus shipping for most.

I think you might be right to be a bit hesitant. That's a very good price.
I recently sold the same config w/receipt/warranty for $860 usd.
But this is Norway. Everything's expensive.

I paid $700.00 here also about 1 month ago. Yes, that's a great deal if nothing is wrong with it. Mine was in mint condition.
