Very disappointed to see the M1 Mac Mini only have 1G ethernet. Surprised Apple did this considering the Intel version has 10G ethernet available.
A Pro version of the Mac mini with space gray case or similar is certainly in the pipeline when it will be redesigned. This Mac mini is consumer grade hardware IMHO. But you can always have a Thunderbolt to 10gbps ethernet adapter .

The m1 Mini as released by Apple was intended be a "lower-end" Mini.

As such, I doubt many buyers would require or want 10gb ethernet.
For that reason, the marketing folks probably reasoned no need to offer one.
That means production savings, because now you don't need two motherboard versions, etc.

Exactly. There’s only one motherboard model and that drastically cut production costs.
And having 10gbps ultimately requires more I/O on the CPU. But knowing that even the number of displays was reduced, I bet the number of I/O is reduced compared to Intel.

Just noticed there is now an option to configure the Mac Mini M1 with 10G ethernet. Just pulled the trigger and ordered a 16GB/2TB model with 10G ethernet. :)

In light of the recent iMac release, I might just order the same spec.

I have a spiffy new Dell 34" curved display that my MacBook Air M1 is powering right now. I don't think I'm ever giving this baby up for an iMac again. Don't care about 4K/5K/8K. Just give me real estate so I can spread all my windows out.
