After updating to Mac OS 12.3 my 14” M1 Pro MBP is not ordering my displays properly. They are matching ASUS displays connected via DisplayPort to a CalDigit USB-C Pro dock. I have one in landscape and one in portrait.

I tried using display placer to swap the display attributes and it just swaps the display locations but doesn’t correct the orientation. The only solution is to unplug the dock. Wait for the graphics to reset and then replug the dock. If I do it too quickly the displays stay messed up.

Maybe this is the excuse I need to tell the wife I need an Apple Studio Display…

I have an intel 16” rMBP from work and that does not have this issue.

Is anyone else having this issue? Any other ideas on how I can get the displays to correct without unplugging my dock?

I have also tried to put the display back to sleep and wake back up and the displays are still swapped

Maybe I didn't get it.
If you're opening  –> System Preferences –> Displays? You can rearrange or try to switch between display modes maybe that would be helpful

The displays are setup correctly when I first connect to the dock. I shouldn’t have to reconfigure them every time I wake the computer. And didn’t have to do that before the 12.3 update.

Here is the before and after. I can try to fix the configuration in system preferences, but my guess is that it would then be messed up when I connect and would then have to sleep and wake the displays to get the display arrangement corrected.

After connecting to the dock:

After sleeping and waking the display, this happens whether I manually sleep the display or if it happens from the 5 minute delay:

To confirm I had a kind of similar problem (though limited to ordering as both are landscape). Mac Studio, 2 Thunderbolt displays (Benq PD3220U) connected side by side. Upon coming out sleep the ordering I set hasn't been preserved. I just swapped the ordering of the Thunderbolt ports around and it seems to have solved the issue ! I think it is something to do with the way the Mac enumerates the displays.

Have you submitted the problem to apple.com/feedback? Not sure how much that helps, but at least they'll know about the issue.

There's quite a few posts about this, someone previously commented on the macOS forums section saying it will be fixed in a new developer build soon...
