Hi all

Can someone confirm whether the new coloured trackpad that you can order with the new iMac is the exact same one that has been available for a few years now... just that the metal is colour coded to the rest of the kit?

I already have the current trackpad.. but it would annoy me if it didn't sit perfectly lined up with the new Touch ID keyboard.

Colour doesn't worry me as you can barely see the metal part of the trackpad... but dimensions would.

Thanks

Yep! It’s the same, just upgraded slightly internally. It’s called the Magic Trackpad 2.

The new colourful trackpad that comes with the iMac is the same size as the Magic Trackpad 2 (which was first introduced in 2015). However, it is important to note that it's corners have rounder edges, as does the new Magic Keyboard with Touch ID.

This means that your current trackpad will appear more 'squared off' around the corners than the Touch ID keyboard if it's sat next to it.

The 'old' trackpad has different corners, the new trackpad is much more rounded. So is the new keyboard, so the rounded corners are of the same radius. Functionality and size are the same though, its just that the corners are differently shaped. If you don't like the more squared design of the old trackpad with the new more rounded keyboard, make sure you'd get the new one.

Also, when buying the new iMac, upgrading from mouse to trackpad is only 50 dollars, so to keep everything designwise (and ergonomically) in check, i opted for the trackpad. And I would advise you to do the same.
