Wow... You didn't drop it or get it wet?.. Hopefully you have AppleCare+. If it's not been externally damaged, Apple should repair or replace it. Make sure you do a backup somehow before you take it in!

If you have another Mac handy, you could use Configurator 2 to revive the M1, which may (or may not) correct the problem, if it is hardfware related. If you don't have a Mac, hopefully the repair center can properly diagnose and correct the problem.

The only time I've seen LCD screens like this was when there was extreme external trauma to the device - whether from shipping, or someone closing the lid on an object, or twisting the lid, or stepping on the lid.

Good luck with the Apple Store - hope you keep us updated as to what it is!

we fixed these screen uncertainties by resetting and reinstalling the display port chord on MacBooks but this was several years ago when those needing the repair after their they fallen several feet,
this image hast to be scary and shocking to see after opening a new MacBook tho, and hope for the best!

I don't see anything but reflection on that pic.. Anyway, sounds like hardware issue. Good luck. Hope you get it fixed.

That is a broken display. Happened to my 11" when my iPad dropped on the lid in closed state. Both devices in hardcover. Was more worried about the iPad, since thought the MacBook was safe, so didn't discover the broken screen till next morning.

I saw a guy on a YouTube video where he described not to open and close your MacBook by the corners as they can bend some and break the screen. He said always open from the center. He was too nervous to even demonstrate it once.
