I switched my LG ultawide to DP 1.2 and it has cured the sleep/wake/crash issue. All I lose is 144 Hz which I can wait on Apple’s fix.

Has anyone noticed a lower max brightness since updating to 4.48? I feel like it only goes up to about 70%?

Macbook Pro 13" 2020 M1 update 11.2 and LG 27UN850.

I am also experiencing losing the reolsution setting when the macbook and monitor wake from sleep on the LG. I have been unplugging and reconnecting the monitor. I think I will try waking the monitor up first.

I cannot wake the monitor first. It waits for a signal.

I am also using the scaled settings. So I have more room on the monitor.

Mac Mini m1 with LG34BK95U (business model of 34WK95U) here.

I just installed Onscreen Controls software v4.48. After a few minutes, it asked me if I wanted to upgrade firmware. I said yes. It upgraded monitor firmware to (4.12, 16, 4.17)
I am now able to connect to monitor with DP1.4 with HDR turned on.

Before the firmware upgrade, I could only connect with DP1.2.

The Mac mini went into kernel panic this morning when I tried to wake up the monitor. The Mac rebooted and now it seems to be working fine under dp 1.4

I have the LG 27un850-w. I have it connected to the monitor using USB-C I have my work laptop connected on HDMI and switch inputs back and forth. Last night I left my Mac on and it went to sleep (lid closed) This am I hit a key on the external KB and I felt my watch vibrate but nothing on the screen. Tried it again and the watch vibrated but still nothing. I swithched inputs to my work laptop HDMI and then to the USB-C and it worked. I Have it set to DP 1.4. Will 1.2 fix this? Will I loose anything? I don't use HDR.

Had an issue just now where every time I closed the Mac lid the image didn't show to the LG it just went to sleep. I kept trying to wake the Mac but no external monitor unless I opened the lid. Tried switching inputs on the monitor and that didn't do it. I powered the monitor off and back and now its working for now at least. Not sure if this is an LG or Mac bug. A bit annoying but I know the work around.

I had kernel panic again this morning with DisplayPort 1.4. I guess I'm switching back to using DP1.2... and so, no HDR

11.3 beta 2, MB AIR 16GB/1TB M1, LG34WK95U with latest firmware - good news:
since installing beta 2, I am not having the wake up issues with closed lid any more.
the system wakes up, an it keeps the resolution that I was using (3008x1260 HiDpi)
I am using the original thunderbolt cable and DP1.2.

Now, I hope they also enable HiDpi over 3008x1269...

I have the issue whereby the M1 MacBook Air kernel panics when restoring my LG 4k monitor.
Still occurs in 11.2.1 - it's reported to Apple as FB8925129

I did indeed. And the issue may be less frequent as a result. However it has happened at least twice since I downgraded DP. Have sent the crash logs to Apple.
I tried a thunderbolt LG 32 it was a mess with my M1 so back to the USB-C 4k 27 and its rock solid. hopefully apple will fix this soon.

After installing Beta 2 I still have an issue. Will try Beta 3 today.

Been following this thread; I use scaled resolution just so I can get more to fit into my 27" LG monitor. Problem is that after the computer wakes from sleep it wakes with everything zoomed in for some reason. Even the log in screen is zoomed. My log in profile is usually on the bottom right of the screen 🤷🏾‍♂. Kind of like I'm using accessibility zoom or something...

I'm using USB-C that came with the LG monitor since it powers the M1 Mac as well.

Hoping for a fix soon.

I just realized this issue only happens when I'm using 2560x1440 or 3840x2160. When I use 3008x1692 I don't have an issue. Installing Beta 3 now.

Made it worse. I give up. Just gonna use default resolution.

Hey everyone,

I'm about to buy an LG 34WK95U-W and a MacBook Air M1 😬

I've talked with the LG support and they said they're aware of the problems with M1 machines. They said the OnScreen Control is guaranteed to work with Big Sur, and that the issues have to do with the Apple Silicon. Hence, end of Feb 2021, a firmware update was planned to be rolled out for LG monitors.

I've also talked with Apple and they said that the issues must come from the monitor, not the Apple Silicon. Oddly enough, they've advised not to buy an M1 for the moment if I want to use a monitor that currently has issues.

Has any of you seen/tried the late-Feb LG update? Outcomes?

Also, I'm planning to use the screen for office work and dev - not photos/videos. I want the screen estate. But some of you mentioned that at full 5k2k resolution, things are way to small to be comfortable.
- How small? Could any of you kindly PM me a picture?
- How far are you standing from the monitor? Like 3 feet / 1 meter?
- At work I have a 34" Dell U3417W (3440x1440) - and the resolution is ugly as hell, I can see the pixels and the text is blurred. So if the Dell is too small in resolution, and the LG 5k2k is too big, what's left in between to try? 🤷‍♂️

Cheers

I have a lg 5k2k ultrawide connected to a mac mini m1. Updated to latest firmware a month ago, Big Sur 11.2
The monitor is connected through both thunderbolt and hdmi to the mini.
I use the thunderbolt connection because I get full resolution and UI scalling (the 3xxx something resolution everybody is talking about, I feel it's good enough for the time being).
I put the mini to sleep everyday and usually it wakes the monitor up correctly, although it takes a while (15-20sec?).
Once it didn't wake up and if I switch to the hdmi connection, I get the login screen. If I then switch to thunderbolt again, it's working normally.

Where can I find this Firmware? My LG monitor model is BN88U-B and I can't seem to find a Firmware update anywhere.

That's not even the monitor in the thread title. LOL.

For 34WK95U/34BK95U, it's updated through the "OnScreen Control" software. You download it from the LG web site.

On my Intel Mac I use a resolution of 3072*1296 for the LG 34WK95U, as it scales better to the physical pixels (5120/5*3=3072), so that within every 3 physical pixels 5 pixels are rendered. An even better physical scaling is archived with a scaled resolution of 3820*1620, as it renders 4 scaled pixels to 3 physical ones, though this is too small for my taste.
As this resolution is not available on M1 anyhow, I wondered wether my custom 3072*1296 HiDPI resolution still could be applied on the M1 Macs, as it is only slightly larger than the current maximum of 3008*1269, and actually resembles true 6K (1024*6=6144 - HiDPI for 3072), which the M1s, according to apple, are capable off. If someone could try my custom override and report back, I would be glad as it would ease my thought on wether to buy an M1 Mac.

Unzip the attached file and move it to:
Code:
/Library/Displays/Contents/Resources/Overrides/DisplayVendorID-9e6d/
Create the path, if it does not exist (might require admin permissions). After a reboot the resolution should be available as a scaled resolution in the system's display preferences.

I don't want to take risk in trying this even if it works. But FYI, on my m1 Mac mini, /Library/Displays does not exist.

There is no risk involved. This is legit, apple supported behaviour for applying custom resolutions. ;) - In case it does not work, you’d just have to delete the file and folders created, and if it does work feel free to use it or revert if you like.

11.3 beta 4 has fixed my wake from sleep resolution issue (even though my LG monitor BN88U-B is not the exact model listed in the title of this thread)...

I'm on an M1 MacBook if it'll encourage anyone to update...
