I have an M1 Macbook Pro 13" with 16 GB Ram and 1 TB SSD.

I also have the latest NetGear 8 stream router and 400 MB internet connection.

When I'm in the same room with the wireless router the internet speed tests at 400 MB on the M1 and my iPhone 12 is at 240 MB.

When I'm in my basement office, my iPhone 12 tests at 240 MB in my hand while the M1 Macbook Pro is only at 25 MB.

What's wrong with the M1 Macbook Pro antenna design that it can't get a WiFi signal more than 1/10th as good as an iPhone?

I have no such troubles with my M1 MBA.

Are you running a VPN? In my opinion, your phone speed is a little low as well, if you are not running a VPN.

Do you have separate SSID for 2.4 or 5Ghz, or does your router automatically assign?

The following thread may be of help.

No VPN. All frequencies are on the same name automatically assigned. When I'm next to the router and slowly walk away I can see a big drop in speed at one point so it appears the Mac is dropping to a slower channel while the iPhone stays on the fast connection. I restarted the router and the Mac is now at 340 MB in the basement office so that seems to have resolved whatever issue the Mac was having that the iPhone wasn't, for now. Thanks!
