Hello
Last week I received an M1 powered 13 inch MBP Unfortunately the USB-C dongle/hub that I use with my 2020 16 inch MBP doesn't work with the M1 MBP.

Can anyone recommend a USB-C dongle that is proven to be M1 compatible and that I can order on Amazon UK?

Thanks

😄

Can you explain what you mean by “doesn’t work”? What is the existing one? What specifically about it doesn’t work with the new Mac?

I mainly use the dongle for HDMI but no image is transmitted to my monitor or to a screen at a conference room of a hotel last week.

However my laptop worked fine with a co-worker's USBC dongle.

What brand/model is it (the hub you have)?
The one below. I have come across a few posts about people having issues with USBC hubs compatibility for M1 MPBs. Hence why I'm asking for recommendations for dongles that are proven to work without issues. I want to avoid ordering one that doesn't work without issues :)

Holy **** the list of caveats ("Notes") on that page is embarrassing.

Did you have it plugged into power when trying to use it? Otherwise, I'd buy from a more reputable brand (an actual brand someone has heard of before) rather than a cheap Chinese knock-off.

Belkin, Anker, Kensington, OWC, CalDigit are usually well received. You'll probably get more useful answers if you can identify what ports specifically you need. Do you just need HDMI? Or do you need a card reader too? USB-A ports? Ethernet?

The varieties and combinations are quite diverse, so being able to narrow down what you want to use it for/with will help a lot.

Yes. I know it's Chinese but if you search around you will find that even people with dongles by reputable brands have compatibility with M1 MPB. Furthermore, many usb dongle/hubs are white labelled and contain the same hardware under the skin. The fact, also remains that it works flawlessly with my 16 inch Intel MBP.

I need a dongle with:
USB-C passthrough for charging but able to work without being powered.
HDMI
USB-C port
USB-A port
SD card reader

I've generally come to expect better support (in terms of the manufacturer providing information, updates, etc) from known brands, than I have from Chinese ones, that's all I'm saying.

e.g. OWC maintains quite detailed compatibility tables for their products, and goes out of their way to identify which Macs their products to and don't work with.

Just have to ask:
What kind of dongle does your co-worker have?
