m1 max vs m2 pro vs alienware

I want to know which of this pc is good for Video editing and after effect and photoshop
All for the same price
1. 16inch M1 max 32gb ram 1tb ssd
2. 16inch M2 pro 16gb ram 1tb ssd
3. 17inch Alienware x17r2 intel i9-12900hk 64gb ram 1tb ssd rtx 3080ti (16gb Vram)

I'd say 1 is better than 2 as well, the extra RAM and GPU cores tip it that way.

As for 3, it'd probably be really good at it too, but I've never use Alienware either. I'd choose this one. But all depends on if you like Windows or not. I like Windows and MacOS...
 
I think that 3 will be technically better than one, due to its specs (M1 Max is equivalent to 3080/3070, and you have quite a bit less RAM on the MacBook Pro), but in practice, they will seem identical. Unless you're doing heavy GPU stuff.

Apple's products consistently punch well above their specs because Apple has put so much effort into streamlining everything, develops everything in-house, etc. Just look at the iPhone, which has a 48mp camera but competes extremely well with the 200mp S23 Ultra. Or the fact that the iPhone 15 pro has 8gb of RAM, while that same S23 Ultra has 16gb. And there are other android phones that have up to 24gb (!). That's more than most laptops.
Point is, the MacBook Pro will probably be identical, if not better, in terms of real world performance. Even if the specs disagree. Also, MacBooks do really good on photoshop and such. Really you just have to choose whether you want Windows or macOS.

If you would be happy with windows, probably pick (3) or some other pc notebook. Personally I strongly prefer macOS and a unix based system for development.

for some reason, photoshop ran pretty poorly on both Windows 10/11 with a i7 10700K with RTX 4070 (and also with RX580) There was microstutters in panning and in the UI. My hackintosh running macOS with the same RX580 is way smoother.

Work computer with a i9 12900 is also a massive stutter fest on Win11.

All good computers. More RAM is usually better. Alienware vs. Mac, or, Intel versus Apple comes down to choosing an Operating System and noise profile (fans). The Macs mentioned are generally more quiet than Wintel machines. You won’t go wrong with any of the three…

#1 with the Max chip is stronger than even an M3 Pro chip. And more RAM is better. Personally, buying a box for your described usage I would get minimum 64 GB RAM (I bought M2 with 96 GB). No comment on #3 because I do not do Windows except under duress.

sustained performance doesn't mean it'll be good for creative work.

1. The display's colors are not as good as a MacBook. In other words, the colors are more washed out.
2. The MacBook display has superior color range. That is, it can display more colors than the Alienware. Gamers don't care about the various color ranges, but how fancy or realistic of the graphics.
3. The machine appears to be focused on qualities that gamers desire, such as a very high refresh rate (200+ hz) vs. color range.

ArtIsRight have done a comparison between the various M1 and M2 machines (sans M3) and the Razor Blade 18 (Intel Core i9-13950HX 24 core, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Mobile, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD).

M1 MAX is much better.
I was using M1 MAX maxed out before changing to M3 MAX maxed out.
It was always great to use.
You should probably buy the 64 GB RAM version.
Or Buy the M3 MAX if that's an option.

Don't forget that you can use the MacBook with macOS + Windows 11 ARM + Linux + you can use iPadOS and iOS Apps too. The GPU can use all (32, 64, 128 GB RAM). All these things together are not possible with Alienware.
