Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone can give me a point of comparison.

I read some reviews stating that their M1 MBA CPU core temperatures didn't exceed 85 C under extensive benchmarking,
but mine soar up to the high 90s quick quickly (15-20 seconds) during benchmarking/handbrake/video rendering/light gaming before I pull the plug.
I've used TG Pro and Sensei to monitor.
I'm in an extremely cold environment.

Many thanks in advance.

I don't have any fancy sensors attached to my M1 Air but I can tell you, the palm rests are always ice cold no matter what I'm doing with the computer. So I'm assuming my CPU is running cool and comfortable.

That is normal. If you are using TG Pro and/or Sensei, those show the actual core temperatures of the 8 corr individually. The others who have said 85C are looking at the overall M1 SoC temperature will be more of an average composite which include other parts of the chip which arent being used (GPU) and much cooler.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
I saw your thread before (thanks for all that info) but didn't see explicit before/after core temperatures so I wasn't 100% sure.
You think climbing into the high 90s (core) within a few minutes of handbraking, for example, is normal enough for this model?

As the MBA is passively cooled, it will be thermal-constrained after a few minutes, when put at maximal load (like when running multicore benchmarks), ie the core temps will go to close to the maximum temperature allowed, and then throttling steps in, to keep it under the maximum temps.

That makes sense and I understand.
I just wanted a numerical point of reference for core temps or some kind reassurance that the specific numbers were normal.
Jumping straight to 90s within seconds then back to 40s/30s within seconds seemed very dynamic and I wanted to rule out the possibility that thermal paste was badly applied or there was some issue.

I didnt do benchmark test because it puts stress. Thanks for doing it for me people!
