Just noticed this a little while ago and it's really bugging me.

How about your keyboard: Do you have any “mushy” feeling keys?

It works fine, it just feels different to all of the other keys and it’s worrying me.

The right one on my MBA is quite solid and chunky feeling.
If anything the whole left side column of keys do sound a bit hollow but nothing too troubling :)
Hello Quack, thanks for replying.

I suppose there are tolerances to be expected, as these things are manufactured in the millions.

Both of mine feel and sound equally normal.
Thanks for the feedback, Robert.

I think I'm over worrying about this.

Everything on my MBP has been perfect, so it threw me.

I use the shift key quite a lot, so I'm surprised I never noticed it before. It was only during the MacOS update that I noticed it.

Thanks again.

Indeed, yes. There'll be variations in them.
Interestingly, since I just updated to 11.3 I can now run diagnostics which was not possible on 11.2.2 or 11.2.3 for some reason.
Sadly it showed up the same error with the trackpad as my now returned MBP (NRD005 and NRD006) which led to me returning that one.
I'm not doing anything about this one for the moment as it seems perfectly fine so far.
I do have Applecare + so it shouldn't be a problem should I need to address any problems that might appear in the future.

Hopefully you won't have any problems, buddy.

Seems like you're still enjoying your machine.

Hello again all, and thanks again for your replies.

I've come to realise that the key (right shift) actually feels more "mushy" whereas all of the other keys have a "chunky" feel to them.

Can you please check with your own MacBooks again to see if this is also the case with yours?

Much appreciated, thanks.

Still no.

Update:

Went to the Apple Store today, and they replaced the scissor switch mechanism in the right shift key.

It's now perfect, just like the other keys.

If anyone else is experiencing "mushy" keys, they can be fixed and it only takes about 10 minutes.

I once had a similar problem with a 2015 MBP and the genius said they had to exchange the keyboard together with the whole unibody case to fix that.:D

That's awesome. Yet another reason getting rid of the butterfly keyboards was the right call. When those keyboards broke you basically had to get a whole new computer every time. It was apparently more trouble than it was worth to try to fix a single butterfly key. These "new" keyboards are more old school mechanisms, so I'd imagine they're perfectly fixable most of the time.
