Hi,

I have a M1 Mini with dual Benq EX2780Q monitors. One is connected HDMI to HDMI, the other USB-c to HDMI with a single lead.

I run both in 2160x1440p in 144hz. However, only the HDMI to HDMI monitor gives me the option of enabling HDR. The other one doesn't at all. As a result, I haven't enabled HDR so as to have consistency.

I had a few problems when I initially set this up. The HDMI to HDMI monitor has always worked fine with no issue and given the output expected. However, I have tried (and returned) half a dozen or so different usb-c to DP/usb-c leads. Each one not giving me a refresh rate above 30hz. Until I tried the single lead usb-c to HDMI option I have now.

Sounds passes through fine and if I'm being perfectly honest, the picture looks fine. It just seems strange that I have two identical monitors but can't get them to offer the same display outputs.

Anyone have any suggestions or advise what I'm doing wrong. Would I be better of with a Caldigit usb-c to HDMI 'active' adapter and using a HDMI to HDMI lead plugged in to that? I have also just added the TS3+ to provide some more ports if that's of any use.

Thanks.

The display has a USB-C port and a DisplayPort port. Use one of those instead of the HDMI port.
Otherwise, try the Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter.

Thanks for the reply. I have tried both usb-c to usb-c and usb-c to DP, but never got anything above 30hz refresh rate until I switched to a usb-c to HDMI lead - even though both screens showed HDR as an option. So both screens looked very different until I did as you can imagine. All cables tried were apparently capable of up to 8k with various refresh rates.

This all seems very strange. Although I haven't tried the apple usb-c to digital AV multipart adapter, but was hoping to avoid paying £75 if at all possible.

I have the same monitor with a MacBook Air M1. Trying to get QHD@144Hz, not able to using usb c or DP so far. Which single lead usb c-HDMI cable did you use to get the non HDR 144hz working?
