Hi!
My M1 Pro battery has started draining much faster than before—it dropped from 100% to 65% in just 45 minutes. I’m not running any particularly demanding apps either. Battery health shows 84% in macOS and 79% in CoconutBattery.

I’m considering replacing the battery. Has anyone done it outside of Apple? In Sweden, Apple charges around $325, but it’s much cheaper to buy a kit from iFixit and replace it myself. Are iFixit batteries reliable? Does anyone have experience with them?

Thanks.

My experience is that at that level of battery health yes - you may see much faster battery drain.

This isn't unique to apple batteries. I just had to deal with a server UPS that drained WAY faster than expected due to age/battery health.

You should check what's going on with Activity Monitor, or top in the shell.

Have you drained the battery to empty recently to calibrate?
Checked with Activity Monitor

Have drained battery to calibrate as well. MacOs normally shows higher battery percentage than third party apps.

I experienced the same problem with a MacBook Pro M1. I drove myself crazy trying to figure out which app was draining the power. However nothing was using excessive power.

Eventually, I took it to the Apple Store. It turned out to be a power management issue on my logic board and that it needed replacing. The Apple genius said that he’d noticed a rise in numbers of M1 MacBook Pro’s with the same problem over the past few months.

I’m hoping this isn’t the issue but it might be worth exploring as an alternative to the power drain app if you haven’t had luck with it.

Fingers crossed for you it is not that issue.

Thanks for the input. Closest Apple store is around 330km from home. There is an authorized service centre in nearest city. Probably I should take to them. If is is a faulty logic board, I just keep a charger with me always.
