From a performance perspective, not worth it unless you're running local LLMs. Regular benchmarks like non-AI photo editing put M1 to M5 at about 2X.

You're usually best off selling it after 5-6 years, so just right before it no longer supports the latest macOS.

Well my point for doing it early was the most likely price hikes that are going to be coming soon to future macs, combine that with getting better resale value selling my m2 now vs in a couple years, it made sense to do it now while the mac is able to remain a good bang for the buck

Hopefully im wrong and apple just continues to absorb the cost of ram and ssd. But i can afford to be wrong and enjoy a shiny new mac now and know i got it for a good price, than risk them getting inflated next year
