Yeah nobody who has the 2021 should upgrade unless they just want to change sizes but even then they can just get an older version. I think until OLED comes we won't see any reasons to upgrade.

Depends on pricing. I've seen good deals across the board on the M1 12.9".

The cellular M1 11" is just around EDU pricing of the cellular M2 11" right now though.

The sad part is those of us on 2018/2020 iPads Pro also have no compelling reason to upgrade. I want the better display for watching movies, but it would have required something more. Even moving the camera to landscape like they did for iPad 10 would have been enough of a QOL upgrade to convince me, and they didn't bother.

Agree, but I suspect the magnetic charging arrangement for the Pencil 2 would have entailed a lot more engineering than they were willing to put in for this update. However, I still feel short changed by this update and I feel we are marking time while the world wide shortage of components and reliable manufacturing resources sort themselves out.

I just purchased a 12.9" to replace a 2021 11" IPP. The 5th gen 12.9" I never see in the refurb store, and with Veteran pricing, the difference between the older units on Amazon and Costco, and the new IPP 12.9 was $60. Figured the $60 was worth it to have a 2022 for resale or trade in the future. I would not make the move for any reason other than wanting the larger unit. The specs mean little. Not for what I do.

Fortunately, I sold my M1 11" a while back which now allows me to buy the M2 version. Come to think of it, I'd buy it anyway.

Good to have excuses though. 🙂

Kind of in the same boat here: I was going to buy a M1 IPP last year but was waiting to see if they trickled-down the mini LED panel to the 11” this year. No luck on that, but i didn’t want to wait another 18mo for the rumoured OLED upgrade (my 2017 10.5 is dying, white patch on screen and battery well past its best) so I was going to buy an 11” M2 1TB cellular through the education store. However, I found a heavily-discounted M1 11” 2TB cellular on Amazon for £440 less than the education price for the M2 I was going to buy so ordered that. Do you think that’s a better buy or should I just suck up the extra cost and get the M2 I was originally going to get? I don’t need the extra storage I’m getting with the M1 but would like to hang on to this for a while so thinking along the same lines as you. I guess partly it’s just me thinking “the M1 is cheaper but it’s not the latest model”…

I was coming from a iPad Pro 10.5” with the same problems and went for the 2021 iPad M1 11” last year. Except for it not having an XDR mini-LED panel, it is just great. If you find a good deal on one now with the M2 out I don’t think you are missing anything. And, if you are saving some cash and using it for a couple of years, it will seem like an even better deal when you are tempted by an OLED display and M3 on the newest and best future iPad Pro 11”

I had been an 11” user for a while too, but after using the 12.9” I don’t see myself going back. Also the 16” MBP and 14PM — the bigger the more productive.
