Hi all

So my budget isn’t massive but I’d like to buy a Mac mini. I plan to use it with my 40inch pretty cheap TV and a wireless all in one keyboard mouse piece.

Do you think I’m better with an M1 with 16gb or an m2 with 8gb? Tbh I like the price of an m1 with 8gb but not sure that is enough to edit videos and major music on logic and Ableton…?

Any suggestions with the above would be super appreciated

Honestly, if you are able to, get an M1 with 16GB of ram. You'll thank yourself later. 8gb of RAM, for ANY device these days is just nothing special. I can only speak to the M2 with 16GB of RAM and I LOVE it but if your budget dictates one or the other, I'd get the extra memory if you can.

M1 with 16gb for sure. Not only will you get more ram, but a faster base 256gb ssd as well. In any productivity task such as photo manipulation, design, multi tasking and multitab web browsing the m1 will be substantially faster.

Thanks everyone

So the 512gb, would that be better than the 256? Obvious question but a lot of the samples I use are on external drives, and just wondering if it’s worth the difference?

I think the 512gb is only marginally faster than the 256. Not by leaps and bounds but very minor increments. But more storage is never a bad thing either. Thankfully, 1TB external SSD's are coming down in price too so that's an option as well.

Thanks

I’m actually looking at the i7 Mac mini, bargain! Any good?

Thanks

I’m actually looking at the i7 Mac mini 8.1 bargain! Any goid

I have a both an M1 mini 16GB and a M2 Pro Mini. For everyday tasks there is no real difference. Go with the M1.
