As always, sorry if this has been posted or discussed before.
Decided to get an m1 mini.
Will I be ok using a 1080 27” monitor, or a 24”?
Using mostly for work, not much video editing, mostly web based google doc type work.
4k is just out of my budget, but decent monitors can be had for $120 or so.
Any thoughts?

I wouldn’t want to go over 24” at 1080p. You’ll probably find decent deals on 21”-22” monitors as well. At 27” I’d want 1440p minimum otherwise everything is just enormous.

In this case, if you don't want to go for 2560×1440 or 3840×2160, at least go for 1920×1200. It's a substantial improvement over 1920×1080 ("1080p") which pretty much sucks for anything besides watching movies. There's lots of 24" 1920×1200 monitors out there.

Have my sights set on a very highly rated Asus 24" monitor that I'm going to grab for $100 at staples on my way home. Thanks all!

IPS and flicker-free at least - looks decent enough for $100.
Update: typing on the new mini with that monitor now.

It's a VERY nice monitor for the money, but I wish I had the budget for a 4K. Very clear and bright, but I was used to a retina in the 16" MBP I sold. I am using an HDMI cable, but ordered a thunderbolt to HDMI adapter, so perhaps that will make a difference.

Won’t make a difference unfortunately. Don’t waste your money into an adapter. Direct connections are always the best

Once you go HiDPI/Retina, there's no going back. Glad you're enjoying the new screen.

I’m planning to replace my 2020 5K imac with a base M1 Mac Mini and looking for a fairly cheap monitor with at least not muddy colors. Doing so will let me save nice amount of money and then I’ll be ready to get the upcoming AS imac.

The Asus I picked up for $100 at staples is not bad at all for 1080

I have a couple of Acer SB220Q monitors that I use with the Mac Mini I just got this week (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CVL2D2S/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1).

Only reason I went with that is because when we went to work from home earlier this year due to Covid, this is the one my company bought people who wanted a bigger than a laptop screen. They were only about $80 when I bought them, so I went ahead and paid out of pocket for a second one.

They seem to work just fine for 1080p monitors. No complaints.

That being said, at some point, I will likely upgrade to larger 4K monitors, but it just isn't a priority at the moment.

Update: the monitor is going back today. It was nice, but really wasn't up to par.

It was worth a shot though.

Now the question is: I have the chance to get either a 2018 LG 27" 4k monitor, or a brand new 43" 4k hdr tv.

Am I crazy for leaning towards the tv?

A PC monitor is optimized for being connected to a computer. I don’t know the details, I acknowledge, but every single time I read on this, the PC monitor was always a better choice than a TV. You can just Google it and on Reddit and you’ll see plenty of reasons why that I can’t remember by hearth, but a PC monitor is always better.

Can anyone comment on how the fonts in the Terminal window appear?
I am on a new Mac Mini M1 and while the 24" 1080p Viewsonic IPS is very nice, when I open the Terminal the fonts there are ugly as hell. Tried both HDMI to HDMI or DP to DP, no improvement (BigSur 11.1)
Thanks
