M1Pro vs M1Max Thermals/ Fan Noise

Hey Macaddicts,

So one issue I'm running into with my 2019 16" I9 MBP is fan noise while I'm doing screen recordings via Quicktime. I borrowed an M1 Mac mini which was dead silent. Unfortunately a desktop wouldn't work for me as I have to be mobile. I suspect the new M1 Pro/ Max will be a lot better, but I wonder if I would run into less fan noise issues with the M1 Pro vs the Max, or if it would be the same. If it's the same I'd get the max. It would be great if Apple had something in the system preferences to throttle the processor to keep it quiet.

The MBA is always a possibility, but it's difficult to go back to thick bezels, and a smaller screen.

Do you think the Max would be more likely to spin up the fan than the Pro?

I wouldn't expect screen recording to even remotely phase the M1Max. So my guess is the fans won't spin up when recording. I actually think that the fans won't spin up on most regular day to day tasks. Unless you're 3D rendering I don't think you will hear the fans much.
But of course we just have to wait and see. But we won't have to wait too long. Next week is right around the corner!

Like all of Apple's computers the fans only kick in as much as they're needed based on usage. The performance-per-watt on M1 and now M1Pro/Max will be nearly identical. The single core benchmarks coming out are confirming that the performance is the same.

So doing similar tasks should result in similar fan noise. The difference being you can push the M1 Pro/Max much harder and it has a much better designed thermal system than the M1 mini/13" pro.

Although the M1 mini is in a larger chassis than the MBP which might give it an advantage with cooling and thus less fan noise?
