Ah, sorry, I have overlooked it. I mean, I can't speak for Apple, but the simplest explanations that they didn't feel like doing a major internal redesign for a model they knew is approaching end of life anyway. The 27" iMac was released around 2015 if I remember correctly and it's thermals very absolutely ok. I can definitely imagine that they are getting more constrained with the hot running Comet Lake CPUs, but frankly, should Apple do a redesign every year because Intel can't keep it in their pants... and I mean thermal profile?
I'm not expecting a yearly redesign. I'm simply expecting them to have gotten the thermals right when they released the current-generation iMac in October 2014 (i.e., not at the model's end of life, but at its beginning). I know the thermals weren't OK with the i7 in 2017 (https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...or.2307038/page-3?post=30414660#post-30414660). And based on this I assume that they were just as not OK when it was released in late 2014, since the thermal output of that iMac was even higher (see screenshots at bottom).

If Apple were *really* serious, they would have used this instead. Maybe they're saving it for the Mac Pro....

[For anyone that doesn't recognize this: Google 'Spaceballs gone to plaid']
What a great movie! So maybe instead of starlight and space grey the new MBPs will come in plaid? That would be wicked cool.

Plaid Macs...?

So the Burberry Edition Macs...?!?

Me, I am wanting the following:

New Mac mini (Pro); M1X, M2X, whatever...

10-core CPU (8P/2E)
64GB RAM
32-core GPU
1TB SSD
10Gb Ethernet
$2999

I would prefer the chassis size stay the same (as I am sure the MacCoLo facilities with thousands & thousands of Mac minis installed would also), I would rather have overkill cooling than cooling that might thermal throttle at some point...?

Whilst I agree with the specs, I think the drawing itself is fake. It doesn't relate to any specific purpose; it's not a true schematic and certainly doesn't provide any useful information to a viewer. It was likely based off of Jon Prosser's renders.

That same form factor handles 122 Watt with the 2018 model going wild, so it is definitely possible.

The current M1 model when equipped with 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD and 10Gb ethernet is $1,399.00.

That machine would be under $2000

The Intel version of that mini is $2599. I’d guess it will be around that price. But it is going to be well over $2000.
You're right. A maxed out Mini is $2600. If you use the lower-end CPU and 32gb, it's down to $2000. RAM & Storage appear to cost the same between Intel & M1, so, yeah, it'll be $400 more to upgrade to 64gb (if that's an option for the M1X). I wonder if the rumored 16 or 32 core GPU options will be comparable to the two Intel CPUs pricewise?

But the price difference between the current Intel Mini and a similar RAM/SSD M1 is around $400. I expect that the price difference between the M1 & M1x Mini will closer. Maybe $200. So I'm thinking a 16gb/1tb M1x will be around $1600, and a 32gb would be $2000.

I have listed out a machine that is $1999 in other posts (heck, maybe even somewhere in this post, lotta posting going on before the "Event")...

M1X SoC
10-core CPU (8P/2E)
32GB RAM
16-core GPU
512GB SSD
Gigabit Ethernet
$1999

But with my $2999 machine I specified 64GB of RAM, which would raise the price even more...

Apparently Apple charges about $200 for every 8GB of RAM, so we are looking at just over half of the quoted $2999 price being for the RAM itself...

I am pretty sure a 32-core GPU is gonna drive the overall cost up some as well, so I stand by my quote of $2999 for the above machine with 64GB of RAM...

Is it Monday yet...?!? ;^p

The M1X Mac Mini should essentially be the same as an M1X MBP, except without the display, camera, battery, keyboard, and trackpad, and with a different case. So if they don't announce an M1X Mac Mini on Monday, the best basis for predicting its price would be to start with that of the M1X MBP, and subtract.

$2k sounds plausible for the specs you've listed, though I'm wondering if it might be a bit more. An M1 Mini with 512 GB SSD/16 GB RAM is $1100, and since it's (as you said) typically +$400 to go from 16 to 32 GB RAM, an M1 Mini with 512 GB SSD/32 GB RAM would be ~$1500. So $2k for those specs in an M1X means Apple would be charging an extra $500 to go from the M1 to the 16-GPU-core M1X—and, if anything, I would think Apple might charge more than $500 to more than double the CPU, GPU, and I/O capacity. But we shall see.

Probably priced around $1499 with 16Gb RAM and 512Gb base storage I'd have thought if you assume the 14" MacBook Pro is going to cost around $1799.

Additional RAM and storage will cost the usual uplifts in price.

Interesting how this then compares with the upper SKU Intel Mac mini which costs $1099 at the moment but starts with 8Gb RAM and the 512Gb storage. You'd then expect that this SKU goes away but the M1 mini gets replaced next year with an M2.

The entry point isn't really "upper". It is just were Apple did the 'slice' between what they were going to cover with the M1 and what they will cover with the larger M-series they get from the MBP 14"/16".
If apple took away the i5 they couldn't upsell as well into the i7. Also if the i7 was the only option most folks used to Intel power line's might actually bolt because there isn't much choice.

It is 8GB of RAM ( Gb is something different ). It is pretty unlikely that if the larger M-series SoC takes 3 or 4 RAM packages that the minimal memory will be that low. For 16GB , that i5 Mini is $1,299. For the i7 Mini, starting off at 16GB would put it at $1,499. That last one is about probably about right as a starting point.

For the M-series Apple isn't going to offer the same breadth of CPU options. First, they will lean on how much more "faster" / "powerful" so 'everybody' gets the top of the line. Second, it is cheaper for Apple. That Intel 8GB/i5 is covered by the M1 (later M2 when iterate on the lower end Mini).

Those are line drawings, not schematics. The leaker says, “You know how Apple schematics are”, but he doesn’t even appear to know *what* schematics are.

Still no news about M1 Pro or Max version of Mac mini to replace Intel Mac Mini. Maybe wait till next year or another event in Nov?
