Friday is the official launch day of Apple's new M2-powered MacBook Air, and as customers who pre-ordered begin to receive their purchases, Apple has also started in-store sales for the new notebook.

Customers across the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia, and other regions can now place an order on Apple's website or in the Apple Store app and arrange for in-store pickup at a local retail location.

A quick spot check on the U.K. Apple online store suggests that most stores in England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland have available stock for customers today, although there are exceptions.

For example, the 8-Core GPU model in Midnight color with 256GB of storage isn't available for in-store pickup in Scotland's Apple stores until Tuesday, August 16, reflecting a similar wait time for online orders.

Similar delays for base configurations are reflected in certain stores in other European countries, while Australian stores won't receive stock for any configurations until Monday or Tuesday.

Key features of the new MacBook Air include Apple's latest M2 chip, a new design with flatter edges, a slightly larger 13.6-inch display with a notch, MagSafe charging, an upgraded 1080p camera, and new Starlight and Midnight color options alongside Silver and Space Gray.

The notebook is also equipped with two Thunderbolt 3 ports and a 3.5mm headphone jack with support for high-impedance headphones.

Pricing for the new MacBook Air starts at $1,199. The notebook is available with up to 24GB of unified memory and up to a 2TB SSD. The previous MacBook Air with the M1 chip remains available for $999.

This picture makes the notch look ridiculous!

I'm not an opponent of the Apple notch by any means, but since the bezels on these laptops seem broadly similar to those of the iPad Pro, is it really necessary or is it a deliberate design decision? I guess the laptop lids are probably thinner than iPad, but even so...🤔

And the US. Mostly base models plus 16/1TB.

The iPad Pro is thicker than the lid of the Air. Due to the Air having a 1080p camera, they had to have either bigger bezels or the notch or a thick lid.

its important to check if interested because while shipping is 3-4 weeks for base config or the next step up basic config, lots of stores do have same day pick up.

Just make sure to use pick up and not courier same day service. I along with many others have horror stories with that service.

Only the base are available in stores in my major Metro.

Looking at this…

16/512 - Air - $1599
16/512 - 14 Pro - $1799

Don’t be silly, spend that extra $200 on the Pro.
Here's what's really silly...

16/512 - Air M2 8CPU/8GPU - $1599
16/512 - 13 Pro M2 8CPU/10GPU - $1699
16/512 - 14 Pro M1 Pro 8CPU/14GPU - $1799

So much better tech in the 14 Pro, not to mention up to 6 more GPU cores, better display, more ports, etc.

EDIT: It should be said the $1799 price for the MBP 14 M1 is when it is (frequently) on sale at Amazon, BestBuy, Adorama, etc., or I believe the Apple Refurbished are that price. MSRP is $1999.

Yes, anyone buying a machine other than a base M2 MBA should take a long, hard look at the 14" MBP, both new and especially 'used.' There's a very good chance of getting a lot more computer for a little more money.

Zero availability of 16gb options for instore pickup across all stores in the UK. Why provide only 8gb versions…annoying.
I reserved a 16/1TB in Midnight for collection first thing this morning. I suspect there's not many per store, but they were out there, so hopefully there will be a drip-feed of them to stores day on day as often happens with these things.

Wow. Seriously, Apple. Maybe they think their customers aren’t into specs and just want the latest and greatest and will overlook this. If you aren’t getting the base MBA (for price), then the 14 Pro is definitely a better bargain.
