I like to follow a lot of the Apple leakers out there, and I have consistently been hearing about the upcoming (2022) M2 MacBook Air, and from what I can tell, it's going to be great, taking a lot of the MacBook Pro cues with a mini LED (and the notch), MagSafe charging, and obviously a new M2 chip, all great stuff.

HOWEVER, each one of these reported leaks indicate they will follow the iMac look with a several pastel like color options, which I am fine with. Although I don't personally like those colors, choice is a great thing. Where things fall totally flat for me is the use of white for the bezeling around the screen and white keys, I HATE THE LOOK.

I've never been an iMac person, but I think it has a history of pushing the envelope with bright colors, see through, etc. I view the MacBook Air in a very traditional sense, and really want an Aluminum Silver or Space Grey model with black borders and keys.

So to my question, am I the only one sitting out here thinking if they throw a new MBA at us with white borders and keys, it's a complete no go??? Thinking I may be in the minority here, but I'm curious to know.

Rumored colors look terrible. Rumored white notch looks terrible. If any other hardware manufacturer released laptops like these they would rightly be criticised.

I don't mind the colors so much, as long as Aluminum and Space Grey are present. If they have those two, add as many colors as you want. It's the White that kills it for me. Again, I get it with the iMac as it has a history of pushing the design and color envelope. To me the MBA has a very traditional look, and to plaster White all over it is very disheartening.

If the rumors are true, I'll be sticking with my M1 MBA for quite some time (probably should anyway) as I want no part of White bezels and keys.

I definitely think for this model they should have at least one Space Grey with black bezel & keys colour option. Given it's going to be a huge chunk of Mac sales if it does replace the Air in the lineup, can Apple afford to potentially alienate buyers with this like they did with the (relatively niche) iMac?

Having said that didn't the 2017 and earlier MBAs have (effectively) white screen borders? ?

Indeed, as recent as 2017, the very traditional looking MBA had a white bezel.

Yeah, I guess I was only thinking about the redesigned MBA. To your point though, if you go far enough back in the lineage, they definitely didn't match up in look and feel to the MacBook Pro's.

So, I'll take this opportunity to revise my statement somewhat. I view the redesigned MBA in high regard and really appreciate the black keyboard and black bezeling around the screen, giving it a MacBook Pro feel, obviously in a much slimmer form factor.

I'm guessing Apple may be looking to bifurcate their laptop lineup, giving each a very unique and distinct look. On one side you have the Pro's, which retain the traditional look and feel of black keys and black bezeling, and on the other, we get the MBA's, which apparently will take on the look and feel of the current iMac's.

For me personally, the new MacBook Pro's are way too expensive and I have no need for all that extra power based on what I use (or don't use) the computer for. The MBA is going to be the perfect computer for me. I just can't wrap my head around having to buy one with white keys and bezeling, I just hate the look.

This is why I'm VERY happy with my M1 MBA, much prefer the look!

I'm with you, I am not keen on the white keyboard/bezel. I am traditionally a MPB user however, my use case doesn't really justify the power and I only upgrade every 5 years or so. I was thinking of waiting for the new Air's this time round but the white bezel and keyboard (plus no ProMotion) have made me opt for the MBP again.

You act as if the current MBA already has a white bezel and keys. Buy the current Air. Spending more than double the money on a Pro isn’t rational. Especially, when you’ve stated you don’t need the additional processing power.

The white keyboard looks annoying but i can deal with it and all, but a white notch would just piss me off. The black notch atleast fades away, but a white notch would stick out like a sore thumb and that makes me think that apple might actually do it. At a 1000+ i personally wouldn't want to "tolerate" a white notch and a white keyboard, no thanks. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if the rumours of a minimal bezel high end air are somewhat off, the new iMac came with the same chin despite what rumours were saying (from gurman) and the rumours were off for the series 7 as well. If a 1300 imac 24 inch 2021 can come with the big chin and relatively the same design from the front, why couldnt a high end air at 1300 do the same?

Maybe the guy has the money and doesnt want to wait possibly 5, 7 months or even a year for it? If the design doesnt matter to you then the current air is a good deal, but besides the new mbp, i couldnt pull the trigger, especially when u max it out it gets to approximately 1600-1700 CAD.

I'm almost completely with you. I can't stand the white bezels and I don't particularly like these silly color options. I read a post in the Imac section about the new colors. Someone said it made the Imac look like a child's toy and I totally agree. I really don't know who talked Apple into these stupid color schemes. It's not like there was some glaring need to create computers that vary by color... The idea even sounds stupid... but yes the white bezels have made it even worse...

My guess is that I'm going to hold on to my m1 MBA for a while until Apple decides this color stunt is the same thing as the Touchbar... (a bad idea that they should be dropped asap)... It's so stupid...

I would have waited for the new Airs but this (and lack of promotion) made me stick with the MBP range which I’ve always had. So I have a 14” MBP instead.

I had three white iBooks and a white MacBook, and white looks nice for the case but is bad for the bezels and awful for the keyboard. It would be very hard for me to buy another laptop with a white keyboard and bezels.

The new M2 MBA will assuredly have white bezels.

The latest rumours have the current 13" MBP being replaced with a low-end 14" M2 (non-pro).

I suspect this will be the cheapest way to get a Mac laptop with black bezels (unless Apple decides to keep the current MBA around).

white is not such a great color option for a laptop, therefore i will use the one for another 10 more years

I don't really care. I had one of the white plastic iBooks (or was it an early MacBook? not sure). I didn't mind the white.

I do wish they'd offer a space gray version, but I'm not overly worried about the color either way.
