I talked to the supervisor customer service. Was a super friendly conversation. They will collect the macbook air from home and the Apple care team will check another time (in a room with less light 😅). Hope they will change it now and there is a better screen available. I will give you an update ☺️ thanks for pushing me and gave me that advise.

I am glad it worked out so far. I have found I get better results over the phone talking to a supervisor and being friendly while trying to impress that future purchase predicates the outcome of the current situation. Most of the time they will work with you until you get a satisfactory outcome. Good luck and I hope everything works out in the end!

I need a second opinion too. I bought my Macbook Air M2 about two weeks ago, and just noticed there's some backlight bleed in the lower left and right corners. Noticed it when watching Netflix lol. What bothers me is mainly the right corner, but it's visible on both (or I might just be hyperfixating on it and can't stop noticing it now??). Do you think this looks bad and I should replace it? Or is it acceptable and I should just not push my luck, so I don't end up getting something even worse? I'm also adding a photo of my old Macbook Air 2017 as reference.

I received the new M2 MBA a few days ago. I am concerned that my unit has an unacceptable amount of backlight bleed. I'm not sure I'd notice it in normal working conditions, but given how much money I spent on the device, I want to be sure that what I am experiencing is normal. I didn't buy the base model, so unfortunately, the exchange process will likely take several weeks.

Here is how my new M2 MBA screen looks (2017 MBP included in some photos for comparison; see the photo descriptions):

Here is a video from various angles (dark room at the beginning, some light toward the end):

The brightness is set to 100% in the photos and the video.

For those who recently received a new M2 MBA, would you mind posting pictures/videos of your screen? I am wondering if what I am experiencing is normal or an anomaly. I'm also worried that if I exchange it, I will end up with a unit that is even worse.
I have the same issue. Im not sire if I should return this or just use it and pretend it’s not there. What do you guys think? See picture below for reference. The one on the right is mine and the one on the left is my brother’s

It seems like the screens on the Air line are getting the sh*t end of the stick. When the iPad Air 4 was first released it also had a backlight bleed problem. Before that was the Air 3 which had the white dot issue. The Air line is not a budget product. They still cost a premium. There should be more care put into it.

While I was reading through this thread I was surprised how easily you can return and exchange units. In my country (Ukraine) we don't have an official Apple Store, only those authorised resellers. The problem is that they only have 8gb RAM version and it costs 1500$, but I really need 16gb. So I have to consider buying MacBook with needed configuration from unofficial resellers who, I'm pretty sure, will not exchange it under any circumstance (I had the experience of returning a laptop in a 14 day period). They begin to come up with many excuses, like it's unboxed, charger have some nano-scratches and os on. Also they don't give a warranty, you have to pay extra 60$ or so. But MacBook Air M2 16gb costs around 1550$.

So I don't know what should I do. Could this backlight bleeding be a real problem in every day use? I'm planning to use it for programming, documents, movies, not some photo editing etc. If not then I will probably just buy from unofficials. Or maybe I should try to search for a used MacBook where I can test things out. But it's kinda risky. What do you think?

Since no one can know what the unit you will get will be like, it is not possible to answer your question. However, I think even if you get one with some bleeding, it won't be so bad that you'll completely regret buying it. From what I've seen so far it seems that each unit bleeds a bit, but since you dim the screen in darker environments you won't notice it badly.

PS: You can check the pictures I posted earlier from the unit I kept. It has some bleeding and I got a discount from the reseller which I think was fair. However, I haven't noticed it once in my everyday usage.

UPDATE: I received the replacement unit but it still has the same issue. See attached. The first one is a macbook pro with a good screen, the second is the mba that I initially asked to be replaced and the last one is the replacement unit.

Th second one looks better except for that yellow top left corner. Is it noticeable on white background?

It’s only noticeable on black backgrounds. I just spoke to Apple again and a supervisor will be calling me on Monday to explore options. Had I known that this will be an issue, I would’ve just bought the macbook pro 14 instead. The price difference is not significant since I ordered the mba m2 with 16gb ram.

But the battery life is different, as well as weight/size. We have blackouts here in Ukraine. That is why I'm considering MB Air M2, because of battery life and portability. So that I can go to the coffee house or other place with electricity with ease.

I see. We have the same use case then but I’m a bit OC so I find this issue unacceptable. P.S We do not have an official apple store in the Philippines too so I ordered through the Apple Ph online store. You may try to do that too as it’s cheaper buying directly at Apple. You also have the option to return the item to them should you have the same issue. Just call them or schedule a call through the Apple Support app

Hi. I’m also from Ukraine and I’ve had backlit bleeding on my MBA M2. The store has replaced faulty unit. I realized that replacement still has the same problem but seller refused to replace it one more time. He said that it’s fine. So, I went to the Apple Authorized Service Provider and asked them for repair. They’ve kindly collect my faulty unit and I am waiting for repair. AASP must collect your unit if you have one year warranty (they can ask for receipt). Do not trust such resellers who sell their own warranty. It’s scam. They have partnerships with European AASP and they pay AASP money. Why should you buy such 60$ warranty if you can fix it for free in Ukraine under Apple one year warranty?

Oh, that’s interesting. So you are telling that I can buy from any unauthorised reseller (Touch or Jabko for example) and then give it to the AASP for warranty? Or you’ve bought from Authorised Reseller? Could you give more details please?

You can buy it from any reseller. You must log in your Apple ID while you activating the unit. That’s when Apple international warranty starts. For example, if you have backlight bleeding, dead pixels, speaker issue etc. you can go to AASP (with receipt) and they must fix it no matter where you bought it since it under Apple warranty. If they refuse to fix it, you can call Ukrainian Apple support and ask senior advisor to speak with AASP. Jabko and other resellers sell scam warranty. They will ship your device to Poland or other countries where partner AASP located and repair could take longer than in Ukrainian AASP.

I got mine a month ago, and I noticed it today the light is bleeding on the right side, does it look good to you guys? should I go to the Apple Store for a replacement?

I fear that replaced screen could be worse. I’ve had two screen replacements and the last screen is worse than the one before repairs. Now Apple refuses to do anything more. They just say that it’s normal thing.
So…You could just ask for the refund and buy a laptop with better screen or live with this «normal» thing.
Trust me, I’ve had a lot of Apple products and all of them have had different defects. People that say that Apple products are perfect probably haven’t searched for these problems.

I had some major bleeding on the bottom right corner of my M2 Air with only three weeks left of warranty. So I took it into my local Apple Store and it couldn't have gone smoother. He said no problem and I'll get it back in 3-5 days after repair. He also told me since I'm still within the warranty period I can add Apple Care if I want. So I added that just to be safe which was super awesome because I always thought within 60 days was the only time to add it. I also just got the computer back today and the display is mint now. No leak anywhere. I think he estimated cost was around 600 dollars but awesome to know that Apple took care of me.
