I'm so excited, it took a while but it's finally here.

Congrats :) Does it work?

You gotta compliment Apple for using an active-matrix LCD in 1989... because passive-matrix LCDs were/are utter trash.
Unfortunately is does not. It's also not mine, a friend asked me if I could take a look at it to see if I can get it operational. I'll probably spend some time today recapping it. If that doesn't work I'll have to break out the scope and see what I can find. Not sure how easy troubleshooting will be as it's not supposed to be run directly off of wall power.

Tore it down this afternoon and it definitely needs the SMD capacitors replaced. I've removed them to stop the bleeding and initial inspection leads me to believe no PCB damage has been done. I'm obtaining a quotation for the radial and axial lead capacitors but might not receive a response until Tuesday.

Hopefully a recapping is all that's needed. Ah, I miss the days when Apple made computers that others can repair not to mention how easy that make it to disassemble.

You know, I’m really glad Apple finally got rid of those useless function keys and the Touch Bar for this, the M2 MBP. Been a long time coming.

Also, really glad they gave up on that Retina and True Tone goofy nonsense and went with a sensible, straightforward greyscale LCD.

Less is so much more.

Please share your progress. I for one would definitely like to see how you get on with this. :)
Will do. Today I removed the through hole capacitors and installed new SMD capacitors. Until I can obtain the through hole capacitors it looks as if this project is on hold (or I could reinstall all the through hole capacitors as they all tested OK on the ESR meter, however such a move would be foolish given I'm at a point where I just install new ones once I obtain them).

The new capacitors are now installed and...no change. The system still does not power on. Looks as if there's more troubleshooting ahead. Now I need to find schematics. Or should I just take it to Apple since it's under Super Duper Apple Care +++

UPDATE: So I left the system plugged in over night and this morning I was able to get some life out of the system. The system chimes and the screen changes color (from basically off to on but no image). It appears there is some life in this system after all. More than when I started.

Congrats! Please stick with it. You'll succeed. :)

UPDATE: It's ALIVE! I haven't done any troubleshooting other than replacing the 9 volt battery (it measured mid 7 volts) and left it charging for a while longer. I suspect the battery just needed additional time to charge.

Unfortunately I am unable to take a picture given how dark the screen is (and reflective it is if I shine light on it) and since I no longer have any Mac OS disks I can't boot into the OS to change the contrast setting. The hard disk spins up but it doesn't boot...I see only the flashing disk icon with a question mark. So it either has no OS installed or it doesn't work (though it sounds normal so I am hoping no OS).

Anyway it's working and when I return it to its owner we'll put it through its paces.
