Another interesting decision: As an edu customer, M2 storage upgrades are $20 more expensive than M1. Apple knows their customer well - if you want to maintain SSD performance, you're paying the full $200 no matter what.

So are you saying you believe the 256GB drive in the M2 MBA will have the same issues in terms of speed as the M2 MBP?

I don't think the Air would be spared from this cost-saving decision, especially if the entry-level Pro is affected.
 
I don’t think the 256 GB SSD speed controversy would be deal breaker for someone coming from an older intel based Macbook though. Getting 16 Gb RAM is more important I reckon.
